February 14th is sweet for some, and a drag for others. If Valentine's Day traditions aren't your thing, how else could you show your love?

This question stumped a Bainbridge Island gentleman last week when preparing to treat his wife for the impending holiday. Several years of marriage have yielded the annual box of fancy chocolates and beautiful roses, but this year, he wanted to do something special. Something long lasting, much longer than the life of those fresh flowers.

That's when the gentleman rang up Co-Executive Director Jamie Nocula and asked if he could make a gift in honor of his wife. As supporters of Kitsap Humane Society for many years, he told Jamie, "I want to surprise my wife. I want to pay the adoption fees of 14 adult dogs."

Today, five of the 14 dogs sponsored have been adopted, with many, like sweet senior pup Murphy and joyful Colonel Mustard, potentially meeting families this weekend. This gentleman's generosity will ensure that each of these pups are starting their new lives by being an example of paying it forward. We hope his love for his wife, and this organization, inspires you to live life with love on the forefront.

And to the wife whose Valentine's Day gift will live on in the lives of 14 new families: thank you for loving us just as much as we love our pups. Happy Valentine's Day, we love you, Kitsap ❤️

This fun-filled evening kicks off with doors opening at 5:30 pm, followed by the comedy show from 7 – 9 pm. Headlined by the hilarious Monica Nevi, with comedic performances by Thomas Friday and our fantastic host, Joseph Rogers, it’s sure to be an unforgettable night!

Breaking News for Pet Owners:

The Texas-based pet microchip company, Safe This Life, has shut down unexpectedly, leaving the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) to remove Save This Life from the Microchip Registry Lookup database. If your pet has a Safe This Life microchip, owner information may no longer be attached to their chip number.

What should pet owners do if they suspect their pet may have a Save This Life chip?
-Have your pet scanned for a chip at your local veterinary clinic
-Search the microchip number in the AAHA Microchip Registry Lookup database
-If you information is no longer associated, you will need to re-register your microchip with a new provider ASAP.
Your primary veterinary clinic will be able to guide you through the steps to re-register your pet. For more information, refer to the article below.

Where are our small dog lovers at?? 🙋

Quart (picture 1) and Pint (picture 2) are two little terrier mixes looking for the warm embrace of a new home. The 1.5 year old pair of pals are not bonded, but could bring your family double the fun! Quart and Pint are still finding their confidence, so a family with older kiddos who understand these cuties may need some space may just be the pawfect fit for our friends.

As the ice and snow finally melts from the KHS trails, Chief was really hoping his family would be here by now.

At 10 years old, you'd never guess with Chief's energy and charm! He is such a sweet boy, loves being by your side and playing all the time. Chief is dog social, coming to the shelter with another large dog, and would do awesome in a home with a sibling or all on his own.

February is Spay & Neuter Awareness Month! Did you know that just one unaltered female cat and her offspring could produce 420,000 cats in only seven years? And in six years, a female dog and her offspring could produce 67,000 puppies?

To help reduce pet overpopulation in our community, Kitsap Humane Society spays and neuters thousands of dogs and cats in Kitsap and Mason counties every year. We do this through:
-Low-cost spay/neuter services for owned pets
-Spay/neuter services for Community Cats
-Last Litter program for owned mother cats and dogs

The demand for low-cost spay/neuter services is great, and there are many agencies throughout Western Washington that contribute towards the cause. For more information about spay/neuter services in our area, visit our website.

Nala, our beautiful old friend, is looking for a soft place to land!

At 15 years old, Nala enjoys cuddling, bird watching, and time with her person. She is a sweet lady looking for a calm family to join as she soaks up the best things life has to offer. Nala is certain to make your heart melt.

The fit of a dog's harness can greatly affect their behavior during outings and impede the safety of the dog and the walker. Our Community Resource and Behavior team is asking for the public's support in providing new, durable harnesses for our pups. We have linked the products we use below, and while all sizes are necessary, we are specifically needing Size L & XL at this time. Purchases made online can be shipped directly to the Kitsap Humane Society's Dickey Rd Campus.

It's Sunday, which means it's time to share another Happy Tails!

Bruno, formally known as Farley, was adopted from KHS in 2019! Bruce spends his days taking up as much bed as he can (the evidence doesn't lie). He loves being around the family and happily chills in the same room as the action.

"Bruce knows our schedules and will meet each of us in the morning to yell for treats," says dad. "He has a tiny meow and will take over your lap, getting angry if you try to move him."

"Bruce makes me feel very loved by waking me up to sleep on my chest. He has made me very aware of his location at all times just by being such a presence. He loves all members of the family and shows it to each of us in different ways."

Meet our new friend Mora, a 7 month old Schipperke mix who is sure to steal your heart with those chocolate eyes!

This young girl still has lots of energy, she's basically still a puppy, but Mora also enjoys the calmer parts of the day. Relaxing by your side or out adventuring on the snowy trails, Mora is ready for a lifetime full of companionship.

We started 2025 with a bang, helping wonderful pets find homes to support their New Year's resolutions. In January, the KHS team found homes for 212 pets including 68 cats, 53 dogs, 55 kittens, 22 puppies, 2 rabbits, 6 fowl, a goat and a bird!

Thank you to each and every person who helped animals like sassy Kiwi, Retsil's Weatherby, and besties Bessy & Yogi. From the staff who care for them, to those who donate to their care, and finally to our adopters who choose to open their hearts and homes. Help contribute to an even more successful February by adopting today!
