The Summit County Animal Shelter/Control brought us two ferrets today!! Amelia and Zapata needed some vaccines in preparation of going home with their new family. These two were the sweetest.

Welcome Sarah! She was born and raised in Colorado and has been a veterinary technician for 6 years. She has just joined us and we are so lucky to have her! In her free time she enjoys snowboarding, hiking, and reading. Lastly, she is a pet mother of three! (1 dog and 2 cats)

This sweet fella is Scrappy! He was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and spent the day with us getting a blood glucose curve done. During this test we take blood glucose levels all day and monitor the change after giving insulin to find the correct dose.

Mila is an Agouti Husky, and she is such a beautiful pup. Agouti is a gene that we see in various different species like horses and mice, as well as gorgeous dogs like this little girl. It creates a much darker color, which is super rare!

Did you know that puppies can often get urinary tract infections? There can be more to puppies having accidents in the house than you may think. If you ever notice your furry kiddos having more frequent urination or especially blood in their urine they should be seen by a vet. We can test their urine and see if they have signs of a UTI like you can see in the next picture. When we test urine we look for many things including white blood cells, red blood cells, bacteria, and urinary crystals. We can then make sure they get the proper treatment for their urinary tract infection if needed.

Meet Pico and Tija!! These sweet kids joined us for dental cleanings. They were lucky enough to hang out together and keep eachother calm through the day. They are the cutest pair.

Meet Ollie the Miniature Schnauzer! He’s not even 5lbs yet, and in a few weeks he will be old enough to get his rabies vaccine! We recommend vaccinating for rabies at 16 weeks of age, but keep in mind there are several other vaccines due long before that. We like to see puppies at 8 weeks, 12 weeks, and finally at 16 weeks for their final puppy visit.

Yesterday marks the start of dental month! Here is Sherlock to remind you that dogs need their teeth cleaned too. So many cats and dogs have undiagnosed dental disease, whether it’s significant tartar and gingivitis or fractures and abscessed teeth that need removed. We take radiographs of every tooth to determine whether they should be extracted or not, as well as scale and polish each one!

Here is what bladder stones look like on a lateral radiograph. We use imaging like ultrasound and x-rays to diagnose an abnormality like these in the bladder. They are very sharp and can cause hematuria (bloody urine) as well as create recurrent UTIs by harboring bacteria. There is a surgery called a Cystotomy which is used to remove those stones.

This big beautiful girl is named Smoke! She is a 100lb Turkish Boz Shepherd, and is only 9 months old. They are wonderful guard dogs, and we rarely ever get to see them! At full size she is going to be bigger than our vet assistant, Makayla.

This perfect little boy is Peanut, incredibly relaxed for his first vet appointment! He was born a barn kitty, and has now been adopted along with his brother into a nice warm home for the holidays! 🐈‍⬛🎁

These icky creatures are ear mites under the microscope! They are the second most commonly found ectoparasite on pets, behind fleas. They can be found on cats, dogs, rabbits, and ferrets! They cause some significant ear irritation and continually reproduce to be a real bother to your pet.

This sweet baby is Joan! She is going to grow up one day and be a guiding eye dog. She was trying not to fall asleep during her 8 week puppy vaccines. Sorry to bore you little Joan!

Winter has arrived! Here are Dr. Justin’s dogs King and Gypsy enjoying a morning skinning trip. Keep in mind when skiing with your furry friend, that it can be very dangerous. Make sure your dog is well trained to run alongside you, we see ski lacerations all too often during these snowy months.
