I know many of you enjoy our beautiful trails so you might be interested in volunteering for Trail Education Day, where the Conejo Open Space Foundation is helping to educate youth on appreciating our natural open spaces. A bit overgrown and a little warm… but we ended it on a good note with a little romp through the creek. Luckily, no rattlesnake sightings but the ticks were unfortunately quite happy to take a ride on some of our dogs. Ugh! (Always good to make sure your dogs have flea and tick prevention at this time of year.)

Thinking of scheduling a later in the day hike for Wednesday in Thousand Oaks (by Sunset Hills/Erbes). I can do as early at 4pm but not sure if that’s too early. So… how many can do 4:00? Or would you prefer 5:00?

Our hike in Newbury Park last week was gorgeous with green hills and wildflowers. Everyone might be sick of the rain but I love what it brings us. Brown hills will come quickly so I’m enjoying the beauty of nature while it’s here.

Monday, March 11th: Pack Walk at Medea Creek trail in Oak Park 9:30am

It’s too gorgeous outside not to enjoy more outside walks and I’ve got a little time Monday morning. Come join me in Oak Park for this great walk on a paved, fairly flat trail. Perfect for all skills levels!

Park on Flanagan by my red Ford Explorer. We will be walking down a path where the trees and meadow area are in case you arrive late. This a popular walking area so please be respectful of other people and dogs.

COMING UP… I will be starting to do weekend skills clinics for owners that want to work on behaviors in a group setting. These can be drop-in classes or for a monthly subscription, you can attend all classes at a discounted rate.

In addition to working on communication and proofing behaviors in a public group setting, I will be adding in some fun stuff like agility, games, and pack walks.

Feel free to pass on to friends and other dog owners.

The first one is Dec 17th. We will work on Stay, pose the dogs for some cute pics and then enjoy a pack walk.

I will see everyone at the park tomorrow. I may be arriving very close to 9am so if you arrive earlier, please give everyone space and do not allow your dogs to greet others.
We do have some reactive dogs joining our walk tomorrow, so let’s be respectful to those dogs that may be struggling.

Sometimes our pack walks include getting all four feet off the ground! The dogs had a jumping good time!

Pack walk at Conejo Creek park with a great group of dogs. Super impressed with our how well our reactive dogs did and kudos to the owners for great work. We ended the walk with some loving pets from a sweet lady in a wheelchair, then some fun agility jumping… the dogs loved it!

And of course Scully enjoying all this green grass! 🤣

Connecting Canines

Hi, my name is Jen Davenport. As a Simi Valley dog trainer and hiking enthusiast, I decided to combine the two and offer group hikes and other activities for dog owners wishing to socialize with others while also learning more about dog behavior and training.

I am often asked by my clients how they can better socialize their dogs. The obvious answer seems to be the dog park. But not all owners want to take their dogs to the dog park and not all dogs do well in that environment.

I decided to start Connecting Canines so that dog owners would have a way to burn their dogs excessive energy while in the company of other dogs and dog owners. As a dog trainer, it is also my desire to pass on my training knowledge to you during many of our outings. The combination of exercise, socialization and training is beneficial to both dog and owner.

Of course, it doesn't always have to be hiking that brings us together (although we do have some fabulous hills around here). As we grow, we will add casual walks, park play dates, coffee time, and more.
