🥶❄️INTENSE COLD INCOMING❄️🥶

With the strongest and longest cold front in quite some time headed to Louisiana, State Fire Marshal Chief Bryan J Adams wants to URGE everyone to follow these home heating safety tips:

🛌Place space heaters 3-5 feet from objects that catch fire easily like blankets
🔌Plug all heating appliances directly into wall outlets, not power strips or extension cords
♨️Do not use stoves or ovens to heat homes
🔥Don’t overfill fireplaces/wood-burning stoves
🕯Do not leave candles/open flames (or space heaters) left unattended
🚨Have working smoke alarms in your home!

The SFM’s Operation Save-A-Life program partners with local fire departments and districts to provide FREE smoke alarm installations, at any time of the year, for families in need of assistance accessing the critical emergency-alert equipment.

In addition to having working smoke alarms, the SFM also emphasizes the importance of having planned and practiced escape routes for your home, including knowing two ways out of every room.

To register for a free smoke alarm, or learn more about Operation Save-A-Life, visit lasfm.org.

***2nd Update****
Effective January 8, 2025……………
Please see revised hours below.

***Simpson Post Office hours will be changing effective Monday, January 6, 2025. Please see new hours below.
Hopeful, these hours will help those who work.

We understand it’s not the “full time hours” we would love to have, but the Mayor continues to advocate, along with our Congressional Representatives support, to the US Postal Service, for more improved service.

***Also, VERY IMPORTANT on all items ordered online……….
Along with your physical address, PLEASE, PLEASE be sure you list your PO Box #. You can add the PO Box info into the 2nd (optional) address line.
(If you are like us, at times, we never know how a package is being delivered, UPS, FedEx, or Postal USPS.)

If the post office receives a package, and it only has a physical address listed, it’s very important they know what PO Box it belongs to to get it delivered as soon as possible.

The new Postal Clerk Savannah, is working very hard to bring the best service to our Post Office and you. Please take a moment to welcome her.

Happy New Year!

IMPORTANT WEATHER INFORMATION
Due to the forecast, we are requesting your assistance in preventing disruption of water service by making preparations for the impending weather. PREPARE and PREVENT! Now is the time to prepare for freezing temperatures to prevent a loss of water.

1. LOCATE YOUR MAIN SHUT OFF VALVE. The best way to keep your pipes from freezing is to turn the water source off at your main valve and drain your pipes from the lowest
point of your home. Keep cabinets located under lavatories and sinks open to allow warm air to circulate.
2. INSULATE YOUR PIPES.
A crucial part of water conservation is preventing your water pipes from bursting or cracking which would cause leaks. Wrapped pipes remain warmer than the air and are less likely to burst. Disconnect your water hose outside and cover the valve.
3. CHECK FOR LEAKS.
When the temperature fluctuates, pipes contract and expand which causes stress to your pipes. Often, this is the cause of leaks which occur in the winter so please, once temperatures begin to come back up above freezing, do a thorough check on your property to see if any pipes were affected.
4. KNOW WHERE YOUR SHUT-OFF VALVE IS. Even with preparations, leaks happen. That is why it is important to know where your shut-off valve is as well as have the proper tools on hand needed to utilize the shut-off valve. The quicker you can turn your water off, the more water you will conserve.
Each year, during freezing temperatures, water systems around the state have difficulty maintaining the demand for water as many customers run their water through the entire time of the freezing temperatures.
5. REMEMBER THE 4-P’S, PEOPLE, PIPES, PETS AND PLANTS! Prepare your Pipes. Check on your neighbors and elderly to see if they need assistance. Protect your Pets and keep them warm.
Please be understanding and patient when the freezing temperatures arrive as our employees will be working in an effort to ensure our system remains up and running.
