This is something I just came across and please take the time to watch this.
I know when walking into a shelter or a rescue can honestly be extremely overwhelming. But when you walk in those doors open not only your hearts but your mind too. Take a second look at the ones who may seem a little shut down, who look a little different, or they're a little older. They are just as important and need loving homes as the rest of them. Take your time and look to see who really tugs on your heart strings

This is not our shelter but something I had come across on TikTok. When looking for a new best friend please take the time to look at the seniors and older pets. They deserve the love an affection just as much as the younger ones. Seniors are pretty amazing.
But let's also redirect on something. I know I've said it before and getting into the holidays it's more important now than ever. Please for the love of everything fluffy. Do not surrender your seniors to make room for a younger pet. Pets are 10-30 year commitment. They're not something you get and when you get tired of it you can just give it away like a toy. That's not how that works. Yes, we completely understand that things happen, that out of your control. We will do what we can to help.
.
But, please make sure if you are going to be getting a pet that everyone is on board. If you get a puppy and it's a large breed puppy. That puppy is not going to stay small. That puppy is going to get bigger. Please do your research before getting one any kind of pet. Please don't be the person that gives up their dog because, they're getting a new puppy. That's not fair for them the shelter is no place for any pet. It's loud, filled with different and unfamiliar smells, different people constantly moving through, new dogs coming in and out all the barking, squawking, hissing, meows, chirps sometimes it's constant noise. Sometimes it's never quiet. Its a place where some just shut down and it takes a long time to get them out of that. Days of sitting with them, spoon feeding them to help them know that you're not there to cause them harm, you are there to help. Its every day with them to coax them out of their shell to get them to relax and learn to trust again.
If you are making that life changing decision to add a best friend and family member to your life I do suggest you rescue. They deserve love too. It may be not be easiest, but with time and perseverance they will love you with everything they have. They will
