Happy Birthday Brooke!
Happy Birthday Weekend to Brooke! We couldn’t ask for a better office manager! Thanks for always making our work days fun while we are caring for our patients!
We would like to thank all of our Elk Creek Animal Hospital family for their patience in 2023 as we trasitioned to our new clinic. We have added many new services to our clinic, some of which are highlighted in our video below. If you would like any more information we would be more than happy to answer any of your questions.
This video might not look like much at first glance, but do you see those thin strands that are wriggling around? Those are adolescent heartworms, called microfilariae. This sample came from a patient of ours that tested positive for heartworms. If left untreated, the microscopic microfilariae continue to grow until they are mature. Mature heartworms resemble cooked spaghetti in size and appearance, and can grow up to 12 inches long.
This is why we always recommend yearly heartworm testing and prevention.
Have you ever wondered what an ear mite looks like up close? This is a video we took on our microscope of an ear mite from a kitten's ear. Imagine how it must feel having a bunch of these crawling around!
Ear mites, while found in dogs as well, are very common in kittens, and can easily spread from one pet to another. Left untreated, they can cause lasting ear issues. That's one of the many reasons we always recommend bringing new animals in for a wellness exam. That way we can get rid of the creepy crawlies and get your pet feeling better.
Oh, no! Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory! 😂
(Don't feel bad. We gave Jasper a bunch more treats after this. He was a very, very good boy.)
