The New Year is just a few days away! Here are our top pet safety tips so you can welcome in 2024 as safely as pawsible:

-Keep all pets indoors
-Make sure pets have an ID and are chipped
-Keep human food and alcohol away from your pet, and relay to any guests of this as well
-Keep your pet in a cozy area with music or a TV on. These sounds help to drown out any party noises and/or fireworks.

CANINE RESPIRATORY ILLNESS

What we know so far:

It is a respiratory infection in dogs that has been reported in various U.S. states.
The illness is difficult to detect, and animal health officials are working to identify the cause.

Common symptoms include:
coughing
sneezing
nasal and eye discharge
lethargy

Prevention tips:
Vaccinations: Ensure your dog is current on appropriate vaccinations, especially bordetella and influenza.

Limit Contact: Reduce contact with unfamiliar dogs. Increased contact may raise the risk of exposure to respiratory pathogens.

Keep sick dogs insolated: If your dog shows symptoms, contact your veterinarian and isolate them from other dogs.

Visiting the vet: When arriving at our hospital with a symptomatic dog, avoid the waiting room; stay in your car and call our front desk for the next steps.

Arthritis is extremely common in pets, especially as they age. Signs of arthritis in pets include (but are not limited to):

-Stiff or swollen joints
-Difficulty standing from a lying position
-Difficulty going upstairs or jumping
-Reduced muscle volume in the rear limbs

If your pet is showing signs of arthritis, please contact us. We have many treatment options available to help keep your pet thriving, comfortable, and happy!
