On May 9th we posted about our large dog trap meeting its demise after saving many many lives.

We raised exactly $200 towards the trap, which is amazing!! But not enough!

The trap is $700 including powder coating, wheels, and shipping! Tomahawk is also giving us a 20% discount!

This upgrade will last longer but we all know that quality comes at a big expense. 🫣 this is a lot of money to us but we know we need it to continue to save lives and reunite lost dogs with their families.

We are looking for donations to strictly to purchase this exact trap with powder coating!

It will be easier to store, haul to all the places that dogs get lost/dumped, and hold up so so much better, and save so many more lives!

We make this trap available to our community for lost, dumped, and scared dogs. The trap will live at Emmet County Animal Shelter as they are the dog trapping experts and are an amazing source of knowledge and perfectly in the center of all the areas where dogs are lost.

We’ve been working hard to get our annual garage sale ready for this weekend!

🚨Our hours show incorrect on the ad posted by the chamber. We are open Friday 8-5 AND SATURDAY 9-1.

We have tons of items! Furniture, flip furniture, Pyrex, Fire King, antiques, vintage jewelry, clothing, shoes, home decor, Christmas trees, a really awesome record player, a shoe shaped chair!! And so many more items!

We will be adding items throughout the weekend and we make space so please stop back and see us!

After a few years our large dog trap has finally met its match. It has saved so many lives! We are looking to upgrade to something that will last longer but we all know that quality comes at a big expense. 🫣

So about yesterday.

17 Kittens. (And 2 Adults)

Kitten season isn’t cute.

Multiple litters of SICK kittens have entered into the “local” shelter system. They are the lucky ones. These guys were all born outdoors in the elements. Ranging from 4-7 weeks old, that means some were born at the beginning of March when it was still negative at night. The babies on the left are so sick some may lose their eyes.

We try to keep the mentality of no one left behind. This is what no one left behind looks like. 17 kittens in a matter of hours. All because a handful of people didn’t spay and neuter their cats.

I share this because of the sheer magnitude of resources that it it going to take to get these babies healthy, it all could have been prevented. No cat or kitten would have had to suffer.

Our hearts break for the kittens that are continually born outside and the mothers that have to go through birth, and the fighting the fathers endure.

Kitten season isn’t cute, kitten season means death and suffering. 😞

WE SPAY EVERY CAT. NO MATTER WHAT.
We are not a rescue, we do not have a facility to house cats and definitely not to this magnitude. We only had a TINY piece in this massive puzzle, and our hearts are still broken.

We are so grateful for Emmet County Animal Shelter for making space when there is already no space.

It’s World Stray Day today.

Stray = a domestic animal (as a cat or dog) that is lost or has no home.

Please spay and neuter your pets to reduce the amount of homeless animals.

Take a minute and see if there is anything you can do to help the local stray you see everyday. Help it by feeding, sheltering,checking for a microchip, helping it to a rescue, and most of all spaying and neutering.

Donations needed.

One of our caretakers has fallen on hard times, and is in need of food to feed their colony.

We are looking for donations of these types of food, as it is what they have been feeding for years. Meow mix and any form of Friskies wet.

Although we do take donations of opened cat food, this situation we ask for sealed bags but would be happy to take single cans of food your cat didn’t like!

We will do everything in our power to keep all the cats that we have touched happy, healthy, and fed!

This colony was completed in early 2023. All cats were spayed, neutered, and vaccinated.

We are looking for clear plastic totes in good condition with or without lids, to help us get organized for a big exciting project that is coming up!

All of the funds donated to the TNR project are strictly used for spay and neuter. So the funds to buy extras come out of the volunteers pockets, this is why we are looking for second hand instead of buying new!

The holiday weekend is here! Make sure your cat is also ready for the festivities.

Create a safe haven for your pets in a sheltered, escape-proof area of your home. Offer plenty of water and turn on the TV to drown out some of the noise from the fireworks. If you use Feliway or some other product to calm your cat, check today to make sure you have enough supplies on hand. If you're having company over, contain kitty in a room so he doesn't accidentally slip outside.

Most importantly, keep your cats inside if possible. More pets are lost on the 4th of July than any other day of the year. The loud booms of fireworks terrify them and they are likely to take off and get lost. Keep your pets safe!

Please be considerate of your neighbors! Even though fireworks are pretty, they negatively impact so many people and animals!

Kittens having kittens. We see it way too often. Spay your cat(s)!

Aside from the obvious benefit of population control, spaying a cat reduces her risk of mammary (breast) cancer by 25%, makes her less prone to urinary tract infections and prevents uterine cancers. It also prevents pyometra, a deadly infection of the uterus.

Cats are sexually mature by 4 MONTHS of age! ACT FAST before your kitten has kittens! Cats can also get pregnant while they are still nursing a litter. A cat can have multiple litters per year; there is no time to waste!

Constant reproduction wreaks havoc on a queen's body; it robs her body of nutrition and physically exhausts her. Sometimes, her body is not able to support the kittens and they're either born deformed, are stillborn or naturally aborted.

A spayed cat is a healthier, happier cat. Please spay your cat before 4 months of age.

This month is adopt a shelter pet month!!

Adopting a free kitten sounds like a great deal, doesn't it? What's better than free? When it comes to animal adoptions, it's not such a great deal. Go through a rescue or a shelter and you'll adopt a fully-vetted animal at a great rate. Take a free kitten and you'll have to incur all of those vetting charges yourself for significantly more money. (You ARE going to have that free kitten fully vetted, aren't you???)
