Look who stopped by the Furry Friends office today. It was Roxanne Trask from the Three Sisters Lions Club. The Lions Club presented us with a check for $1,500 today! As a small nonprofit in Sisters we recognize the effort put in by the Lions Club members to raise those funds. We are honored and grateful to accept this generous donation from our local Lions Club. I thought I'd share this photo of my 15 year old cat, Meowie. She comes by her name honestly, almost completely deaf, her frequent meows are delivered at volume 10. Are you a Furry Friends client? Well I just went outside barefoot, walking on the pavers around my house and quickly realized it was too hot for my feet. It made me think it's time for this reminder to all. Place your hand on the sidewalk/road for a count of 5 seconds, if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pup's paws too.

The nicest thing happened yesterday. I had been trying to get to Costco this week to pick up a particular bag of dog food needed for Thursday’s distribution. It was complicated by the wish for someone to go with me to lift and load the 40 lb. bag. I happened to go by the office yesterday early evening. Kelly, one of our wonderful volunteers had noticed boxes on our porch and was putting them inside when I drove up. The boxes were unmarked, and I didn’t expect a delivery. Amazingly, guess what was in one of the boxes . . . a bag of Costco Kirkland’s Lamb & Rice, exactly the bag I needed for this Thursday. Needless to say, this made my evening! As there was no packing slip identifying who donated to us, I hope you see this post and THANK YOU for your support and generosity. All the dog food will go out this Thursday to some very lucky families.

It takes 30 to 45-minutes to put donated bottles and cans in our blue fundraiser bags. Something really great happened yesterday. I got a call from First Interstate Bank to stop by the bank. When I did they presented Furry Friends with an employee-donated check for $473! The Sisters Branch had held a special "Blue Jean Friday" event and Furry Friends was chosen as the nonprofit to support. We send out a huge THANK YOU and shout out to the team at Sisters First Interstate Bank!

Well it was probably inevitable, but still disheartening. Furry Friends does their distribution every Thursday. Client orders are clearly marked and put out for pick up from our porch. Today a large order including specialty dog food (Nutri Source), Friskies dry cat food, kitten food, Nulo and Taste of the Wild canned cat food, dog / cat treats and toys were stolen from our porch. Sadly it included 2 containers of powdered kitten supplement that were for 6 kittens born today. If someone comes home with this food, question them. Anyone needing pet food need only ask.

Find the Love of Your Life at the Humane Society of Central Oregon

HSCO is reducing the adoption fee to $14 (not including dog license) on all animals six months and older through Saturday, February 17. On Valentine’s Day, visit HSCO for sweet treats and a photo opportunity in our Kissing Booth from 1:30 to 3:00pm with photographer Win Jones.

Have a heart and adopt the love of your life at the Humane Society of Central Oregon. Adoptions include a complete care package of spay or neuter surgery, first vaccination, health exam by local veterinarians, microchip ID, collar, ID tag and leash or carrying box and food. Plus, limited supply of elevated collars and leashes with adoptions.

The HSCO shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 am to 5:30 pm. The shelter is located on SE 27th Street a half mile South of Reed Market Road. For more information call 541 382-3537 or visit hsco.org to see the animals anxiously waiting for a new home.

Just when I thought I didn't have a Valentine for today, I went by the Furry Friends office and look what I found! It was signed by a beautiful Golden Retriever named Ella. So for all of you out there with or without a Valentine, "Wuff You and Happy Valentine's Day."
