SkyWass Ranch Announcements

Arena Adjustments:
• We're setting up a warm-up area inside the Arena, with race finishes in an alley, similar to Pawhuska’s indoor arena.
• We're working to get our two huge louvered fans operational. Once running, these fans can exchange the air inside the Arena in about 12 minutes—this will be a great improvement!

Barrel Races & Pole Bending Races:
• We will resume these races when the weather cools down a bit.
• Our “SkyWass Ranch Producer’s Rulebook” will be published soon. It will provide detailed guidelines on how every scenario is handled, such as payout structures for different race situations.
• Barrel Setters will be present at every race.

SkyWass Ranch Promoter Policy:
• Open races: If there are fewer than 50 entries in the Open, the payback will be 90%.
• Barn Fee: Includes 1 free exhibition. Late arrivals can use this as an after-race exhibition.

SkyWass Ranch Arena Rental:
• Base rates will be posted soon.
• We are available to host events.
• We aim to support local 4H, FFA, and other youth events. This will include low cost or no cost availability. Feel free to reach out to discuss!

SkyWass Ranch Festivals! (still in the planning stages)
• This Fall, we’re planning our first-ever weekend festival. This will include display booths in the park and arena, 90% payout limited entry riding events, live music, food trucks, a farm petting zoo (with chickens, goats, mini ponies, a highland bull, donkey, etc.), pony rides, horseback riding, local riding club performances, and more. We are also considering a small car show (Horses and Horsepower!) and a BBQ competition. We’re open to more ideas!
• If you have experience organizing events or shows and are interested in being part of a new project, we are looking for Event Staff partners. Come talk to us!

Live at SkyWass Ranch! (Coming Soon – Call for Information)
• Living quarters available with 30a or 50a barn or Arena hook-ups and 1 self-care outdoor horse stall for $700/month.
• Full access to the entire SkyWass Ranch facility, including the Indoor Arena.
• Travel with others on the property to races and events.
• Additional self-care outdoor stalls are available for $150/month each.
• Dump station and water refill available on property.

Thank You!
• We are incredibly grateful for our amazing neighbors and regulars. We’ve made friendships that will last a lifetime and feel truly blessed by these relationships.
• Despite rumors or theories that this property can’t be successful, rest assured that unless we find an appropriate buyer, we will continue to host events and improve this property for years to come.
• While our grand plans for this place haven’t fully materialize, we hope that time or the next owner will take this amazing venue to the next level and make it the iconic Osage Hills destination it deserves to be.

SkyWass Ranch is for Sale
• For more details, visit: https://arrowheadlandcompany.com/property/skywass-ranch-osage-oklahoma/61173/
• Special thanks to Chuck Bellatti for his professionalism and expertise.

Details for all of these coming soon!

PLEASE PASS ON !!!!

Advice from a trucker.
If this is how you trailer your horse on the drivers side, please stop it immediately. Yesterday made the 3rd time in recent years that I’ve had to put a semi in the ditch (maintained control, not wrecked) to keep from decapitating your equestrian friend with his head 3 1/2 ft. over the center line on a narrow road. Thank you!

Over the past month, we have seen a large number of pigeon fever cases. Increased cases typically occur during/after droughts and given our lack of rainfall, this is probably why. Here are some things you need to know to protect your own horses!

🐦 WHAT IS PIGEON FEVER? Pigeon fever is a common name that refers to an infection caused by a gram positive bacteria, corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis. It can affect a variety of species including humans (RARELY), however cross species contamination has not been documented except for cattle. The bacteria itself can reside in soil and enter your horse’s body through their mucous membranes or breaks in the skin.

🦠 WHAT DOES IT CAUSE? Short answer—most commonly ABSCESSES! The three forms are external abscess, internal abscess and ulcerative lymphangitis. The external abscess form is easiest to see (for obvious reason) and ranges from small to large swellings anywhere on their body resulting in your horse becoming febrile, depressed, or lame. Purulent (white creamy) non-odorous material will eventually expel from these abscesses. The other two forms (internal and ulcerative) are much less common and can be more difficult to diagnose initially.

📱 WHAT SHOULD I DO? Call your veterinarian. The large abscesses are easier to spot but the smaller abscesses can be mistaken for bug bites or trauma. Culturing the discharge/pus or serum titer tests are the best way to confirm diagnosis on challenging cases. Majority of horses will need to be on antibiotics (at some point) to treat this disease correctly and thoroughly. This bacteria is traditionally susceptible to penicillins however multiple cultures from this year’s patients have shown penicillin antibiotic resistance and we’ve had to use other susceptible antibiotics.

😷 IS IT CONTAGIOUS? YES!! The purulent discharge from infected horses is contagious and can be spread via vectors such as flies. It is very important to clean up and discard all discharge! Clean wounds routinely, use good fly control, cover the wounds when applicable to keep flies off discharge, and disinfect surfaces wherever discharge has landed.

✨Stay tuned…

Happy Summer Everyone!

We are excited to announce our third annual Christmas with a Cop support fundraiser coming this September 8th, 2024 at the Brooks Walton Activity Center.

Big shoutout to our annual sponsors: The Freemasons and Macs Barbecue as well as our NEW sponsor J and J Chapman Construction!

Shout out as well to the Dog House Auto Spa for their donations that keeping our patrol units clean and shinny.

With such amazing support from valued members of our Skiatook community and valued members of other communities in Oklahoma aiding in bringing so much joy and fun the past two years, we have high hopes for success this year.

Over the last two years this fundraising event has helped make Christmas possible for children in the Skiatook community who otherwise would not have had a memorable childhood Christmas. Let’s make this third year the best yet. We can’t do this without your generous help. WE NEED YOU!

It also give the opportunity for the young minds in the community to see law enforcement (Skiatook Police, Osage Deputies, Troopers and Osage Nation Police) in a positive light, instead of in times of tragic circumstances.

These children are the future of Skiatook. Our hearts are wholeheartedly invested in their prosperous futures.

If you’d prefer to even just come out and cheer on teams, that too makes a world of difference in our community!

Thank you from the Skiatook FOP Lodge #166

We have had questions about how the phone system works, here are some answers!

The clinic number is - (918) 951-0383

You can Call or Text this number.

When you reach out, Dr. Hinkle and Brooke BOTH receive the communication. On most matters, Brooke will be there to assist/schedule/answer some questions.

To be able to reach Dr. Hinkle, let us know what is the situation/question and understand that she will reach out at her earliest convenience. With the overtime she puts in every single day, we do want to respect her time off.

EMERGENCY situations, please text or call, during business hours Brooke will access the situation and communicate with Dr. Hinkle on how we can get both you and your animal taken care of, to the best of our ability with the current day’s schedule.

-Emergencies that take place out of business hours will be taken care of and communicated with Dr. Hinkle. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE VOICEMAIL.

AFTER-HOURS communications, you can reach out, the non urgent matters will be dealt with during business hours. Dr. Hinkle will reply to urgent communications

And as always we appreciate your support and you are more than welcome to reach out.

Thank you!
