With sadness once again in our hearts, it was recommended by our vet to put our new boy Artie to sleep. When we rescued him, we knew his injuries were serious but not to the extent they found.
Artie had been attacked by other dogs before being taken to OKC shelter and our vet found a broken jaw, last 4 back teeth exposed but the infection from his injuries had spread to his bones.
We couldn't let him suffer and he had 10% survival rate.
Animal Rescue, is a tough deal and tugs on your heart at times but like our vet said today. "We gave him a weekend of love and care that he wouldn't have got in the shelter." RIP Artie

Introducing Artie!
A pure bred 5 mo old Rot we rescued from his euthanasia date yesterday.
Very thin, bumps and bruises but going to be an excellent addition to our sanctuary. Welcome, big fella!

Meet Arty our newest rescue. He is a 5 month old Rottweiler mix that was scheduled for euthanasia today. He is extremely skinny and has puncture marks on his face and neck. He has an appointment with the vet on Monday to get a complete wellness exam, hopefully some antibiotics for his wounds and a rabies. He will now live out his life with us at our sanctuary.

If anyone has any blue plastic kiddie pools that you want to get rid of, we sure could use them. All the stores are out being the end of the season but our piggies still need to stay cool. They have put holes in all of the ones we have. Sand boxes will work too.

Good Friday guys and I hope you're ready for the weekend.
I wanted to speak for a few minutes about a subject that is running through the pig groups and quite frankly it's pretty sad.
I'm referring to the criticism a lot of people put on other people regarding, rehoming, caring for a pig etc..
Have you noticed in the last year that many times a person will post and it's starts out with "please don't judge" or "don't be critical" etc.?
I wonder why this is? Let me shed a little light on it, people have joined groups, get ridiculed or read ridiculing to the point that they don't want to post or are afraid of what is going to be said to them!
Groups are a great tool to help new and old pig owners alike. If someone is asking for advice, give it to them. Not a lecture on how expert you are or how they better do it like this or that or else!
We are a 501C3 rescue Hooves and Snouts Farm Animal Sanctuary "Adoptions of Pot Belly/Mini Pigs" and seen not all but a lot, tried a lot of things that work and many that haven't. When we post any advice, it comes from many many experiences with these animals. What works for us, may not work for you. What you feed may work for you but not for us. Simple concept really, and never are we asking anyone to do it like we do.
Be constructive with people not critical.
Lastly, give good sound advice and do some research. Don't guess with these animals, be accurate with your info. Could mean the difference in a pigs life.
There are a lot of long time great pig owners, big sanctuaries like ours and etc., that know a few things about these guys/gals and happy to share any wisdom that we may have.
