Because we thought we couldn't get any crazier.... We weren't necessarily planning on bringing another home, but with this litter being a "one and done" and super important to me...

Introducing Miss Lucy "Delia" Morningstar von SchattenHaus - Granddaughter of Sasha 💜

It's been a little over a week since we brought home one of Ronan's puppies! She's such a fun, chaotic bundle of mess 😅 She flip flops from her mother's personality to her daddy's in 0.5s.

She loves snuggles, swimming, whining about Courtney Luquette's whereabouts, and playing with me 💜 She tries to be very gentle with Peach and enjoys terrorizing the cats!

The perfect caboose to our family pack (cause we're not doing this again for 10+ years).

I forgot to post some adorable updates on the Ronan & Kacie litter! They're 5 weeks old, healthy, and exploring 😍

While it's too early to say for sure, it's important to acknowledge that it's not "all in how you raise them." These puppies are combinations of some amazing temperaments and yet - they all display these traits differently. When picking a puppy, it's so so so important to listen to the breeder's notes. I knew several lifelong traits Ronan and Sloan have from 8 weeks old. Those quirks didn't just go away 😅

At least one of the girls will go on to continue this bloodline and carry on the name. I'm still so proud to be a part of improving and preserving a breed that started to downhill.

We have two openings for our 4-week Board & Train program in May and June!

NOW is the time to make the investment so your dog can take advantage of the pool and learn how to swim for the summer 🌊

Starts: May 27th
Ends: June 21st

🗓 Weekends home for you to check on your pup and to practice new skills. Final private lesson with your household to transfer new skills into your home.

📋 Program covers basic obedience and life skills:
- Sit, down, stay
- Come when called
- Off (the couch, the counter, etc)
- Leave it
- Boundaries for open doors, kitchen, etc.
- Loose leash walking
- Polite greetings (no jumping)
- Light swimming (FREE ADD-ON)

Add-ons available:
- Public manners, on leash only
- Cooperative care for grooming or vet care

Tips for unusually cold weather ❄️

- If your dog doesn't use the bathroom in 15 minutes or less, bring them inside and crate/confine them. Try again in an hour. Your housetrained dog naturally does not want to mess in the house and this will help nudge them along to go outside while also keeping paws safe from the cold.

- Continue to provide water. They're burning calories to keep warm, and it's important they stay hydrated.

- Don't use this as an opportunity to train them to wear booties.

- Don't keep heaters on or near them. Fires and burns are quick to start and harder to stop.

- Do some indoor enrichment to help burn energy. Anything scent related is gold! Take their kibble and hide pieces in random places for them to search and find. Put a handful in a cardboard box; close it; and let them go to town trying to open it. You may have some nice messes, but it's worth it.

- If your dog is a chewer and you need something in their kennel to keep them warm, add straw.

- Some breeds will enjoy the cold more than others. If they refuse to come inside, offer again in 5-10 minutes. Don't leave them outside all day, because they're most likely still not used to it living here their whole lives.

- Watch out for scraps and bruising on their paws if they're playing. Ice and hard ground can hurt and fester.

- Take this time to train something inside! Practice your Trick Dog tricks or your relaxation protocol. Enjoy your pup as much as possible while you're stuck inside.

And do not - I repeat - DO NOT leave them outside to fend for themselves.

Mini Session Win 🎉

Rinpoche and I were practicing "go kennel" with his dad briefly upon drop off, so while we had no leash or collar on, the criteria was appropriate for his progress:

Point and cue "go kennel" ➡️
Goes inside kennel ➡️
Stays (with door open) ➡️
Mark with yes ➡️
Reward

He was doing excellent - until his mom entered the room 😆 I thought for sure we'd need to end it with a simple command then finish up. But I decided to gauge his mindset, so I gave him the cue. He promptly ran into the kennel, but he bolted almost immediately, running right passed me headed straight to his mom.

BUT THEN HE STOPPED DEAD IN HIS TRACKS, TURNED AROUND AND COMPLETED THE COMMAND.

No redirection.
No bribes.
No leash.

THIS ✨ IS ✨ WHAT ✨ YOU ✨ WANT!!

A dog that has the ability to stop, think twice, and make the right choice! Obedience is excellent and preferred over bad manners obviously, but our goal should always be to train a dog to THINK! 💡
