When Biggie got to his appointment, he was scared to death. By the time he left, he was dishing out the kisses.... turns out his owner broke his leg and was away for a month. During that time, he'd come around to eat when the neighbors put out food and water but couldn't be caught and refused to go inside his home because he was waiting for his daddy to come home. What an awesome story of the loyalty of a dog.

Did you know that our pets can be allergic to their food? Even if they've been on the same food their whole life as food allergies take time to develop!
Typically with food allergies "cats itch around the face or neck which produces scabs and hair loss. In dogs, signs include facial itching, foot or limb chewing, itchy anal area, and recurrent ear infections." (Source:VeterinaryPartner.com)
There's some controversy about how prevalent food allergies really are since there is no reliable test to diagnose them and require feeding trials that take 8 to 12 weeks and must be followed strictly. (We had one patient whose feeding trial was skewed because it turned out she was getting into bird seed in the yard!)
Also, food allergies aren't the only allergies our pets can develop....
"Pets can be allergic to insect bites (fleas are not inherently itchy unless the pet is allergic to flea bites), airborne proteins (such as molds, pollens, and dust mite parts) or foods. Pets can and often do have multiple allergies adding together to make them itchy."
While we have blood and skin tests for testing for environmental allergies, it's been proven that blood and saliva tests for food allergies just aren't accurate and we do not recommend wasting money on them. You can read why here: https://vetnutrition.tufts.edu/2020/03/food-allergy-testing/
Typically when we suspect food allergies, we approach it one of two ways... if the owner wants to get to the bottom of it the fastest, we recommend a strict trial of a hydrolyzed diet for 8 to 12 weeks (Hill's z/d or Royal Canin Ultamino). These diets are very costly so if our owners wants to try a less costly diet first, we recommend Purina Proplan Sensitive Skin and Stomach Lamb or Salmon formula as long as the pets haven't been on a salmon or lamb diet before. However if approach #2 doesn't work, then we are back to approach #1.
