The mission of The Washington County Humane Society is to protect animals from suffering and cruelty, to provide care for animals afflicted by neglect and abandonment, and to enhance the lives of animals and people through education, adoption and compassion.
The mighty Zeus is our highlighted pup for ! He's a happy and playful 2-year-old Shepherd mix who's super great with other dogs. His best friend is Quinby (dark brown Pittie mix) and they could go for hours.
We've been caring for Zeus since April and would love to see him thrive in a home with other dogs, so long as it's a patient introduction. Come meet Zeus soon!
The loss of a pet is never something we want to think about, but having resources and empathic voices can be a big comfort. That's the goal of our support group. Meet up to share your thoughts and emotions, or simply listen to others experiencing similar grief.
Join us this coming Wednesday for our first session of 2024 and see if our group is right for you.

Eagle Scout Troop 6762 from West Bend saw the ragged state of our named benches and decided to help out. They made a detailed plan and hauled our benches away. The benches were returned last week looking brand new! They will adorn our hallways and outdoor spaces for years to come. Thanks to the scouts and their families for taking on this renovation project and delivering high-quality work!

Katrina Hanson has always been an advocate for animals and a caring supporter of WCHS. She had the chance to visit with Donut, Sparky, and Jack (the latter two in her arms) and wants everyone to know they are all looking for loving homes. To make the decision to adopt even easier, she has sponsored their adoption fees! All the more reason to take a trip out to the shelter and say hi!

Leash up your canine companions and join us at Sandy Knoll County Park for an afternoon of sippin', strollin' and sun! Our tasting trail brings you past several sampling stations with awesome local and regional crafts, as well as exciting products for your dogs to sample, too!
Complete the trail and head over to the event barn where we'll have activities for the whole family! Test your luck in raffles, show off your dog in a pet photo contest, and grab a bite or sip from local food and beverage trucks. We can't think of a better way to kick off the summer!

As the videos suggest, he's an active, snuggly, goofy, and all-around lovable Terrier mix. He's 2 years old and likely has a history as a stray in Milwaukee. He was brought to us by Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) and we're hoping your loving home will be his final stop! It's the final day of our MEGA Rummage for the Animals! It's also our Bag Sale/Half Off day! Here's how it works:
1. Visit us at the Washington County Fair Park in West Bend - in the Ziegler Family Expo Center. We're open now 'til 2pm today!
2. We'll give you a brown paper bag (or several) and you're off to shop! Fill your bag with great stuff and pay $5 for everything that fits inside. If it doesn't fit, it's half off. It's that simple!
3. Check out and enjoy your rummage finds!

Happy ! Here's an update from our Foster Care Coordinator, Kelly:
"This week two long-term dogs, Atlas (Shepherd/Husky mix) and Spock (Beagle), were finally adopted!!! These are both dogs that absolutely needed to live in foster homes, rather than at the shelter. Both dogs have been with us for about 2 months. Atlas did not adjust well to shelter life and was a completely different dog once he got into foster care. Spock is a super senior who was brought to WCHS due to his owner's health issues. He had a history of having seizures when in stressful situations, so WCHS knew kennel life was not ideal for him either.
These two adoptions would 100% not have been possible without our awesome fosters opening up their homes and allowing these guys to crash until they found their forever homes.
Especially with our busy season in full swing, WCHS is always looking for new fosters! Whether it's one week or one month; dogs, cats or small animals; it all helps make a difference in an animal's life!"
WOW! The students of Silverbrook Intermediate raised an impressive amount for WCHS through baking! Thanks to the participating students and their families, and to teacher Wendy, for all your efforts!
This , we're highlighting shelter partner Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) and their abundance of lovable pets, many of which are terriers! WCHS recently took in dogs and cats from MADACC that are up for adoption now. If you can't find the right pet with us, there's a great chance you'll find one with MADACC.❤️🐶

Adele Rose, a 3-year-old female cat, is showing off her playful side! She's originally from Louisiana where she was likely a stray. WCHS has been caring for her for 3 months and we'd love to see her in a loving home very soon.
Swing by the shelter during viewing hours and she may just demonstrate some of the new tricks she's been learning!

Happy to Rex, who's been working remote lately and is sending us love from his foster home!
Rex is a 3-year-old Pittie mix who was brought to WCHS in April. Staff and volunteers describe him as a sweet, gentle guy whose favorite hobbies are cuddling, napping, and being a general goofball. He's excited to meet other dogs - very excited - and is learning good leash manners while in foster. 🐱It's definitely around here! We already have had several calls & intakes for kittens this morning. These cuties are part of this mornings intake and will be available at 1:00 PM for viewing.

Our spotlight this week is on Spock, a super senior at 14 years old. He's a Beagle with an exceptional sniffer! Spock has been in a foster home for about a month to avoid the stress of the shelter and is looking for a home of his own. He's quite active and loves his daily walks!
At 14, he's got a few health concerns, like limited vision and hearing. Our Foster Care Coordinator, Kelly, can give a complete run down of his health needs. Sunny spring #TerrierThursdays with Berry❤️☀️ Berry is a 3-month-old female from Mississippi and as you can see, she's enjoying the courtyard too! Her actual breed is still a mystery to us. We were told she's a Catahoula/Terrier mix. What do you think? Visit with Berry after 3pm today!
Guy ain't shy! This #TerrierThursday, we recognize one of our fearless puppies, Guy. He transferred to WCHS from Alabama and came with little history. He's a Terrier mix and therein lies the mystery. His sister was adopted, and now it's Guy's turn! Come by our shelter during viewing hours and say, "Hi Guy!"

This #TerrierThursday is Muggle-mania! Muggle was transferred to WCHS from Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) two months ago, where he was brought in as a stray. He's a pint-sized Pittie and 7 months old. Playing with dogs of any size is one of his favorite passtimes. When he's not using his brawn, Muggle thoroughly enjoys using his brain by doing scentwork (sniffing for treats in boxes). This confident young lad has a feisty personality and is always up for an adventure!
It's a snowy day, but that doesn't stop our dog playgroups!
Shelter dogs had the chance to open their own gifts this Christmas!
Bacon time! Pet safe bubbles are an exciting way to keep our shelter cats and dogs stimulated. It's also entertaining for staff because most animals have never seen them before! WCHS is full of dogs ready for loving homes! Visit the shelter during viewing hours and consider adopting🐕
That's a wrap! Ever wonder what happens to the trees after Festival of Trees? We tightly wrap them for safe travel to whoever purchased or won them! Though the event is over, the festivities at the shelter are not. Shop our extended holiday boutique, "ugly" sweater sale (through December), and remaining decor all week! Mister shows us the importance of reducing outside time in sub-zero temps this holiday weekend. Noses, ears and paw pads are at risk for frostbite. If your pet likes sweaters, it wouldn't hurt to throw one on!
