Power of the Paw

Power of the Paw provides animals in need with a safe haven through responsible rescue and educates the community about responsible pet ownership.

Power of the Paw is a 501(c)3 nonprofit animal rescue organization that is committed to saving the “unwanted” out of kill shelters in the state of Idaho. We do NOT get any kind of government funding and rely strictly on donations and adoption fees. Power of the Paw began in November of 2011. It got its start by being a simple page that posted dogs in kill shelters bringing more attention

to them in hopes of getting adopted. Then we ran across a shelter that very much needed our help. We began fundraising and found a boarding facility that gave us a good deal to hold the dogs while we looked for rescues and transports to no kill rescues throughout the entire Northwest. We began clearing out one shelter every 2 weeks, and we have gotten even bigger after that. We now have pur own rescue and foster program.We do still pull from the kill shelters and find transport to other outside no kill rescues. However, we are now looking for foster homes. Those dogs become our responsibility in the terms of medical, behavioral, and we are in charge of getting them their furever homes. Power of the Paw strives to provide professional services to the community while showing compassion to the animals of the state. We are a very small team, and prefer to make sure we can have proper communication and get the animals where they need to go in a professional manner. Our adopters, fosters, transporters, donors and supporters are like clients to us, and we will make sure they are treated as such. Opportunities to help include:

Misty has been found and is on her walk of shame back home!

My nieces horse got out sometime overnight and they haven't been able to find her yet.

Addy is a super sweet rescue girl. When she was rescued by my cousin it was obvious that she had been neglected and abused. She was skittish and sever separation anxiety. With the love of her new family she has overcome many hurdles. She became playful and happy. She was injured when she tapped into her younger self and injured her leg. 2 days before surgery she again let her wild side out to play in the snow and injured her other knee. Her vet suggested completing both knees at the same time which was an expense they weren't prepared for but made work for the good of Addy.

This is Diesel! He’s a husky/hound mix that turned one last month. Sadly my mom had to make the decision that he deserves more than what she can give him. He does amazing with cats, kids and female dogs. It would be PREFERRED that he is in a single dog home. He has started being territorial/ aggressive to the other male dog in the house when he is kenneled or around food. We think some of that also stems from not getting the exercise and stimulation he needs. He is a HIGH energy dog that needs walks everyday, needs training, and a fenced in yard so he can RUN.
Diesel is neutered, kennel trained, and house trained. He has the funniest and spunkiest personality ever. This puppy dog wants nothing but loves, and cuddles. Personal space definitely is not his strong suit lol. He needs a home where someone has the time to work with him, makes sure he gets plenty of exercise, and preferably as the on doggie!
He will come with his kennel and the kisses he has to give. We just want to make sure he goes to the home he deserves.

So this is my 3rd time trying to post this.

Oh my goodness guys, I'm so sorry for leaving everyone hanging for so long.

One year ago today I lost my father so this has been a very difficult month for me.

But enough about me, on to the man of the hour!

Mr Keeley Man had his dental yesterday and to my complete shock he didn't have to have any teeth pulled. His teeth were surprisingly good.

My heart is broken today. In January 2016 my parents adopted Lacey (formerly Iowa). Today I held her Paw as I said my last goodbye to this silly sweet girl.

When she came in she has several different parasites, she was severely under weight, she had been used as a breeder and pumped out liter after liter.

My dad had always wanted a Great Dane and he was able to see past her very sad appearance and fell in love. We had 7 amazing years with her. She is now running free with my dad free of these earthly bodies.

So it seems that none of my posts have been uploading, I thought it was quiet here.

I don't remember 5 minutes ago let alone what I had posted but here are some of the pictures I took from this weekend.

This little man enjoyed the sun, has really found his voice and has been loving the toys. His new thing is greeting everyone that comes home by grabbing a toy and bringing it to them when they come in.

I think that Keeley is finally comfortable and knows that there will always be a next meal. Today for the first time he just took a quick bite of his lunch and walked away with the bull still full.

It's crazy when you see them side by side these are pictures that I have taken throughout this process.

Finally caught it! The gate is no match for this little turd (used as a term of endearment of course).

My sister came to visit last night and Keeley decided that he wanted to play with her. I love that his personality is showing more and more every day.

We have been home about an hour. So far he has met all 7 of the other dogs and my nieces dog. He did well with everyone but he also didn't put up with any of their sh*t 😆. I will be keeping them in their own living area for the night to allow him time to decompress and get comfortable. When we first got home he peed and popped outside, yay! Then he immediately went into the living room and jumped up on the couch, all by himself, which of course I didn't have my phone out for. I will share a second video I got of him getting up there with a little help at the end. He just had meds and dinner and now it's time to try and relax and get used to all of the new stuff, smells, sounds, people and other dogs. Also please disregard the house lol, today is deep cleaning day. All of the furniture is pulled out along with rugs, shoes, dog toys and everything else on the floor. So that it can be scrubbed and laundered. Also sorry for my super annoying voice 😄

I'm sorry for the lack of update the last couple days but here is some great news! Keeley gets to come home with me today! I'm getting ready to leave shortly. It's an hour and a half drive to get him so expect an update this afternoon! Enjoy this short little video of our excited boy! Today has been crazy and I haven't had a chance to get a Keeley Update but I do have a funny story to share from yesterday. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Last night I got a call from his primary vet tech and she was still laughing. She was doing walks, as you have seen in the video of him running. Well after she had walked all of the dogs she went back to take Keeley out to potty. She opened his kennel to put his leash on him and he escaped, running around her. She painted a very funny picture of chasing after him as he darted through the clinic on a mission. He has a one track mind and he was going for it. Can you guess what he wanted? If you said food, you are correct! He b-lined for the food room, it looks like he has been watching and ploting an escape and getaway to the land of milk🥛 and honey 🍯. When she finally caught up with him he was waiting for her, wagging his tail and request her services. He wasn't thrilled to be lead away from the buffet empty handed and escorted outside to potty but, he was pleased to see his meal was waiting for him when he got back.

Would you look at the energy level of our boy! I went and saw him yesterday where we got a tail wag for the first time. He also had solid poo 💩! I went to Petco where he was able to meet a few of our followers, and get a new sweatshirt. Our boy is rocking in style. 🎉🩷 I just received the most amazing pupdate on Keeley! 🩷🎉 Keeley seemed to turn a corner today. He has started to seek affection from the vet staff, his appetite has increased and he's now barking to request food. They are feeding him 1/4-1/3 of a can of food every couple hours and he is handling that amount very well. For the first time he was able to go OUTSIDE AND WALK AROUND!! As you can see in the video he is still very week but also very determined. 🥰 When he first arrived at the clinic on Wednesday evening he weighed in at 7.02 lbs, today he weighs 7.22 lbs. Slow and steady is our pace. His goal weight will be between 12 and 14 lbs. I will be making the trip up to see him either tomorrow or Sunday and will get everyone additional updates. Please enjoy the video, just his desire and determination made me cry ❤️❤️❤️

With the help of his foster family, Marty has gone from terrified to full of life. 14 years on a chain, and now he waits for that happily ever after with someone not afraid to take on an old dog! He's good with dogs and cats but due to his age, older kids are preferred. He has had a dental and a check up. His adoption fee is WAIVED for the right home who can appreciate his sugar face, and love him for who he is!
