๐ฆท๐พ February is National Pet Dental Health Month! ๐พ๐ฆท
At Thomas & England Veterinary Service, we're dedicated to promoting the importance of good oral hygiene for our furry companions. Just like humans, pets need regular dental care to maintain their overall health and well-being. Here are some important tips for keeping your pets' pearly whites in top condition:
1. Regular Brushing: Make a habit of brushing your pet's teeth regularly using a pet-specific toothbrush and toothpaste. Start with short sessions and gradually increase the time to allow your pet to get used to the routine.
2. Dental-Friendly Treats and Toys: Providing dental chews and toys designed to promote oral health can help reduce plaque and tartar buildup while keeping your pets entertained.
3. Professional Dental Check-ups: Schedule regular dental examinations for your pets to ensure early detection and prevention of dental issues. Our team can provide professional cleanings and address any concerns about your pet's oral health.
4. Watch for Warning Signs: Keep an eye out for signs of dental problems such as bad breath, swollen gums, difficulty chewing, or changes in eating habits. If you notice any of these symptoms, it's essential to seek veterinary care promptly.
This National Pet Dental Health Month, take the initiative to prioritize your pet's dental care. A healthy mouth leads to a healthier pet overall!
Give us a call to schedule an appointment and let's work together to ensure your pet's smile shines bright! ๐ถ๐

๐พ Winter Pet Safety Alert! ๐พ
As the chilly weather sets in, it's crucial to ensure our furry friends are safe and cozy! Here are some tips to help keep your pets happy and healthy during the winter months:
1. Bundle Up: Just like us, pets can get cold too! If your pet spends time outdoors, consider getting them a warm sweater or jacket to protect them from the cold.
2. Limit Outdoor Time: When it's frosty outside, limit your pet's time outdoors. Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures can be dangerous and lead to hypothermia.
3. Wipe Those Paws: After walks, be sure to wipe your pet's paws to remove any ice, salt, or other de-icing chemicals. These can be irritating or toxic if ingested
4. Cozy Bedding: Make sure your pet has a warm and cozy place to sleep, away from drafts and off the floor.
5. Watch for Hazards: Antifreeze is toxic to pets, so be vigilant about cleaning up any spills and keep it out of reach. Also, be cautious of frozen ponds or lakes, as ice may not be thick enough to support your pet's weight.
6. Signs of Hypothermia: Keep an eye out for signs of hypothermia such as shivering, lethargy, shallow breathing, and a weak pulse. If you suspect your pet is suffering from hypothermia, seek veterinary care immediately.
Let's keep our furry friends safe and snug throughout the winter season! If you have any additional tips or advice, feel free to share them in the comments below. ๐ถ๐๐ด๐

Thomas & England Veterinary Services is proud to serve the Smiths Grove, KY and surrounding areas for all veterinary needs.
Our team is committed to educating our clients on how to keep your pets healthy year round, with good nutrition and exercise. Thomas & England Veterinary Services stays on top of the latest advances in veterinary technology and above all, remembers that all animals and pets need to be treated with loving care in every check-up, procedure, or surgery.
We are a mixed animal veterinary practice in Smiths Grove, KY. Dr. Roger Thomas opened his clinic in January of 2007, and it has been growing ever since. This has allowed us the opportunity to bring a partner and three associate veterinarians on board. We were fortunate to have Dr. Travis England join our staff in 2010 and become a partner in 2015 and Dr. Wesley Dyer join our staff in 2014. TEVS also welcomed Dr. Aaron Duggin to our team as of June, 2018 and Dr. Hunter Thompson in May of 2019. We treat and care for dogs and cats as well as a variety of large animals from cows and horses to sheep and goats. We are located in a small rural farming community which allows for a more "down home" feel to our office. We enjoy getting to know each patient and the owners that bring them to their appointments.
Our small animal services include new pet and yearly exams, vaccinations, heartworm tests, microchipping, internal medicine, and spay/neuter surgeries as well as other general orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. Our large animal services include herd health and equine programs, vaccination protocols, reproduction services, obstetrical services, laboratory work ups, consultations, etc. We offer these services either on farm or in our indoor haul-in facility, depending on the client's need.
We have a doctor on-call for emergencies 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. If your pet needs to be seen for an after-hours emergency, they will be seen by Dr. England, Dr. Dyer, Dr. Duggin or Dr. Thompson, depending on which doctor is on-call.
Everyone at Thomas & England Veterinary Services strives to treat each client like family and each pet like one of their own. We hope that your experience with us is a positive one. The best compliment you can give us is to leave us a positive review and refer someone to us. We look forward to becoming your other family doctor.
We are happy to offer a number of resources that enable you to learn about how to take better care of your pets. Please feel free to visit our website at thomasvetservices.com. The best veterinary care for animals is ongoing nutrition and problem prevention, so becoming knowledgeable about preventative pet care is essential to the ongoing success of your animalโs health.
