Crate training your dog is the easiest way to avoid:

1. Separation Anxiety

2. Chewing on furniture and other house hold items

3. Bathroom incidents around the house (your dog never “accidentally” pees in your house. They aren’t doing it to SPITE you. It has nothing to do with how they feel about you or “knowing” where to go but they are definitely peeing and pooping intentionally)

By the Way this is Gunner. Gunner is different then alot of dogs currently up for adoption because Gunner has gone through PROFESSIONAL training, and the new owners will receive LESSSONS and access to our day camp.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

The Dependable Dog training program revolves around teaching you the owner HOW to train your dog. We love doing board and trains however with our new approach of lessons or daytrain prior to Board & Train has shown better results.

Why?

A lot of the time after your dog comes home from a regular board and train they tend to fall into routine but now can place for a decent amount of time, and recall better for bit. Of course life gets in the way and the owner can’t maintain training.

The #1 thing we’ve learned from talking with people who’ve done a board and train in the past elsewhere is they didn’t know what to do besides telling their dog what to do. They don’t know any games, they don’t know the breed needs, they dont know how to TEACH ,all they know tell dog to do and make them do it.

We want the owners to know what to do when things don’t go well. We want to help owners feel more in control and more connected to their dog. The board and train doesn’t change your relationship with your dog. That’s why we work with you first so you can see in real time how your dog learns and how easy it can be!

This is what a dogs growth plates look like as a puppy. Notice how they are not connected!!! They are floating!

When you are raising a puppy it feels like they have endless energy. They can run, jump, and launch and show little discomfort. You don’t notice something’s wrong until an injury is present. Even leaping off the couch has had series consequences for some dogs and puppies.

Calmness is a skill that needs to be trained just like “sit”. In order to do that we need to micro manage our pups. Tether your puppy to you or around you when you are able to watch them, and crate them when you can’t. Your puppy has no awareness of boundaries, or the dangers of chewing tables or electric chords.

Your puppy may not do anything for the first few weeks. However the more freedom they have the more they discover. Sometimes we don’t like their discoveries 😅

They dont need HOURS of activity. You dont need to run around your puppy. You need to plan their day. We need play time; learning time, decompression time, and nap time!

This year we are putting even more focus on handler education. When you work with us we want to work with you EVERYWHERE you need to go with your dog. The vet, the groomer, the family event, or to the park.

We want to help empower you! Once you stop viewing your dog as “stubborn”, “confused”; “low confidence” you will actually be able to make progress with 30 minutes a day of easy to follow instructions. When you can read your dog you open so many opportunities to effectively communicate!

Gunner the GSD will be up for adoption! He is a great GSD with a wonderful temperament. His owner who is older had a lot of tragedies in the last few years and she wants Gunner to have the best life possible.

Gunner is house trained, crate trained , leash trained, and off leash trained. Potential adopters will recieve weekly lessons as long as needed to integrate Gunner into your life and schedule.

He has medium toy drive, high food drive, and is relatively mellow for a GSD. Very even tempered. Not prey driven. If you have experience with GSD he’s a breeze, if you’ve never had a GSD but you have time and are in good health, Gunner would be an easy introduction to the breed.

“My dogs not food motivated”

Usually when we hear this we have a dog that is over fed, free feeding, and or you’re using food as a bridge to behavior. The reason you are stuck grabbing treats for obedience is because you taught your dog that the sight of food is the signal for behavior.

Most studies revolving around animal behavior use animals that are hungry. This is because it is NATURAL for a smart animal to put EFFORT into finding food. Whether they hunt or are scavenging, the hunger creates effort.

This doesn’t mean starve your animals. It means that if you offer your dog food out of hand in your own house with 0 distractions, and they are not willing to eat it, they are not hungry. If you have to force feed your dog treats to get them to stop barking this isn’t a reward, and they are not hungry.

If you want to make progress with your dog you have to understand how to nurture natural instincts and behaviors. Every interaction with your dog reinforces something whether you like it or not. Positive reinforcement doesn’t simply mean more treats makes things better.

“They are not doing it to you, they are doing it for them”

YOUR PUPPY IS NOT ACTIVELY THINKING ABOUT PULLING YOU. They are exploring, sniffing, doing what dogs DO. They will continue to do that until you show them a new job description. Obedience doesn’t exist until it’s created. You’ll have dogs more interested in cooperating with you, but you most likely won’t have a dog who immediately does everything you want.

When someone is doing something to you, it’s thought out and personal. When someone is doing something FOR themselves it has nothing to do with you. When you mix these 2 things up it’s your ego preventing progress.

This is important because when you have a dog you may be blessed and never have to lift a leash and have the perfect dog OR you’ll have to do what the majority of people need to do and work with your dog WITH INTENTION.

My mentor and best friend invited me out bird hunting. Every year we gain new experiences and knowledge that improves how we operate. It’s amazing how happy a dog can truly be. We’ve never seen a dog happier then when they get to do exactly what they want and what they were bred to do. It’s amazing.

Correlation does not imply causation.

A lot of people will tell you to prevent resource guarding you need to establish yourself as the alpha, make your dog wait for food, and touch them a lot while they’re eating to desensitize them.

You don’t need to do this. It’s highly likely that people who have had “success” with these methods most likely had a dog that wasn’t going to be that way anyway. Simply because something seems effective, doesn’t mean it is!

Resource guarding in a lot of cases is determined by genetics and personality. Even doing all the “right” things you may end up with a dog who is aggressive, fearful, timid, or resource guards.

SO WHAT DO WE DO?

We adapt to the dog we have, we make adjustments, and through training , management AND consistency you can make changes!

Socializing is better spent with people and dogs on a similar path of improvement.

Your dogs are learning all the time. Who they interact with and how they interact matters! We want to help nurture neutrality. Which means guiding your pups choices so they can be successful! That’s easier done when we understand who we are around!

Use your friends and family to aid in your training. For the small investment of 20 minutes you can see a big change in how happy and controlled your pup can be.

Resilience.

Our dogs are not made of glass. Besides being your cuddle buddy they have generations of instincts embedded in them. Hunting, burrowing, retrieving, guarding, herding, biting, barking, and many behaviors were built into dogs. Our jobs as owners is to nurture and build resilience.

A resilient dog is a dog who is comfortable in various environments. A resilient dog is a problem solver that can adapt. A resilient dog is created by a combination of genetics, and upbringing. RAISE A RESILIENT DOG!
