He went on to become the Commanding Officer of the Nassau County canine unit. Our founder, Michael Gould, began his canine career in 1982 when he was selected from hundreds of candidates to become one of the first members of the New York City Police Department’s elite Canine Unit. In 1984, he became the Department’s Canine Training Officer. After heading the Nassau County Canine Unit for nearly 20 years, his unique experience helped recovery efforts during the tragic events of September 11th, 2001.

Happy National Service Dog Month!
Our Founder and Mayor Michael Gould celebrates this month year round as a founding member of Canine Consultants International—an organization dedicated to forensic dog handling. Michael has 40+ years of experience as a dog expert and his knowledge on dog behavior not only led to the inception of Hounds Town, but was even utilized to assist in search and rescue at Ground Zero following the attacks on September 11th in 2001.
