Dear Friends,

Can you name these ten pioneer Angus breeders? Only one is still living.

Today we are mourning the death of Mrs. Floyd Dievert of Danville, Kentucky, from a pioneer Angus family.

I have just returned from a trip to Washington, Oregon and California. What a great Angus journey.

Tomorrow we are having a Christmas party at the American Angus Hall of Fame. If you would like to drop by you are invited.

Merry Christmas!

Cheers,
Tom Burke

Dear Friends,

Today we are mourning the passing of a long-time Angus friend of over a half a century, Paul Coleman of Virginia, a true pioneer.

I have just returned from a four day, 2000 mile 40 herd visit selecting cattle for the Tennessee Agribition and the East Tennessee Angus Sale. It was a great journey and the cattle for the sales will be outstanding.

Tonight I leave for Washington State for a two day Washington State visit.

I am starting to really get excited about Christmas. I just don’t know what to say, I guess all I can say is that I am excited.

Angus cattle continue to be the most valuable commodity in world-wide agriculture.

Cheers,
Tom Burke

12/15/2020

Dear Friends,

Today we are mourning the death of Ardyce O’Neill of O’Neill Angus Farms in Iowa, a past President of the American Angus Auxiliary and a true Angus sister.

What a weekend of sales! The Finley Brothers and 5K Cattle Dispersal in Missouri was a homerun averaging over $4,000. The Arkansas State Sale set an all-time record, what a great event.

I have just completed a two day 20 heard tour of the Wabash Valley Angus Association getting ready for their sale on March 21, 2021. What a great offering they have!

This week I have made Angus stops in North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma.

Angus interest continues to be at record breaking levels. If you are going to be in the cattle business they hadn’t better be black they must be Angus!

Cheers,
Tom Burke

Dear Friends,

What an exciting weekend of sales! The Dameron Sale in Illinois with Angus heifers grossed $750,000. What a remarkable event! The Siebring Sale in Illinois averaged $14,500, truly a landmark event.

Make plans now to attend the following sales:

11-Dec (N) Finley Brothers Cattle & 5K Cattle Co. Angus Dispersal Sale, Held at Joplin Sale Facility, Joplin, MO

12-Dec "Sharing the Success Angus Sale," Arkansas Angus Association, Held at I-40 Livestock, Ozark, AR

A special note: The 2001 American Angus Hall of Fame Calendars have been the biggest hit ever with tons of requests. We’ll soon be exhausting our supply. If you’d like a complimentary one, please contact Norma Jean at 816/532-0811 or [email protected].

At Thanksgiving I really missed going to the Agribition in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, an Angus Show that I have been going to for 40 consecutive years. It was cancelled this year and they are in place this year for the following cancellations:
National Western Stock Show in Denver in January
The Fort Worth Stock Show in Fort Worth, Texas in January
The New Angus Show was going to be held in January in Grand Island, Nebraska
The Arizona National Livestock Show in January in Phoenix, Arizona

With the arrival of the vaccine, I believe the environment will settle down dramatically and we’ll be back to business as usual in 2021. I’m excited to report that the Angus sales continue to be very spirited with a strong and positive demand for both bulls and females. The future points to “the best is yet to come”.

I need your help in locating the following: A complete set of Red Angus herd books. International Livestock Show programs for 1906, 1922 and 1923. The following 26 Breeders Gazettes from 1893:
February 22
March 22 & 29
May 3, 10 & 31
June 14, 21 & 28
July 5, 12 & 19
August 2, 9, 23 & 30
September 6 & 13
October 11 & 18
November 1, 8 & 22
December 6, 13 & 27
I am wondering if you would be willing to ask your friends, neighbors and relatives if they would know where I can find them. I would be willing to purchase them.

Cheers,
Tom Burke

Dear Friends,

Today we are mourning the belated deaths of Gail Powell, wife of Bill Powell who is the retired Regional Manager of the American Angus Association from Maryland, and Ben Gale the former owner of Fairgale Farms in Maryland, two great Angus people.

I need your help. I am having a world wide search for 26 Breeders Gazettes from 1893. I know they are out there, I just can’t find them. So would you help me by looking and asking your friends, neighbors and family during the Thanksgiving Holiday Season. They are as follows:

February 22
March 22 and 29
May 3, 10 and 31
June 14, 21 and 28
July 5, 12 and 19
August 2, 9, 23 and 30
September 6 and 13
October 11 and 18
November 1, 8 and 22
December 6, 13 and 27

I will be glad to pay for them.

Happy Thanksgiving! I am usually at the Agribition in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, but the Angus Show was cancelled.

I will be looking forward to seeing you at these Angus sales this weekend:

28-Nov Dameron Angus Production Sale, Lexington, IL

29-Nov Siebring Angus Production Sale, Gilman, IL

A Thanksgiving message from the American Angus Hall of Fame: We want to wish everyone a happy day as we thank our maker for all that we have enjoyed and a special thanks for being an Angus breeder. I know for many of you it will be a different kind of Thanksgiving but the best to come is just around the corner. The vaccine is on the way!

Cheers,
Tom Burke

Dear Friends,

Today we are mourning the death of Jess Bontecou at age 94 from Rally Farms in New York, a great Angus breeder. Also, we are mourning the death of pioneer Angus breeder, Jim Hurlbut, of Raymond, South Dakota, brother of Dean and grandfather of Dustin.

A powerful weekend of sales! The Ingram Sale in Tennessee was a world record breaker right at $1 million, females averaging $12,500 with a tremendous demand for bulls at $6,500 plus. The Ginger Hill Sale in Virginia had an enthusiastic crowd, a tremendous female sale, good demand for the bulls and another landmark event. The Bear Mountain Sale in Nebraska is always a good event, super demand for the females and a great set of working cattle. The Janssen Sale in Iowa had spirited demand throughout and averaged $5,300, a very unique offering.

On Monday I attended the North American Angus Show in Louisville, Kentucky. Over 200 head of Angus cattle, maybe the best Angus Show ever at the North American. The crowd was very disappointing.

Looking forward to seeing you at the following sales:

20-Nov (N) Quaker Hill Angus Sale, Louisa, VA

21-Nov Baldridge-Tiedeman Angus Production Sale, North Platte, NE

23-Nov Bennetts Bayou Angus Sale, Henderson, AR, sale at Gainesville, MO

Cheers,

Tom Burke
