It's hard looking at her sweet face every morning knowing our playful, loveable, huggable, JOYFUL Goldie has been with us way too long, yet she never loses her smile or her hope. We know her forever family is out there somewhere, they just need to come meet her. She's housebroken, is fine with children and especially loves playing with her toys. Cats are a no. Please help Goldie find her forever family.

KITTENS! KITTENS! Who has kittens? The more realistic question is who doesn't? This year kitten season hit especially hard, and is lasting longer, so you can find a kitten just about anywhere.

When you adopt a pet from DeKalb Animal Shelter, your pet will be spayed/neutered, have up-to-date, age appropriate vaccinations, be dewormed and flea/tick preventative.

We have a full house, with more kittens moving into the adoption room this week. As each kitten is adopted, this opens up another kennel so we can bring more kittens from the community into our care and get them spayed/neutered to help curb yet another insane kitten season.

Adopting from a shelter saves lives. If you can't adopt from your local shelter, please consider spaying/neutering your own pet, or helping a friend or family spay theirs. Preventing litters, saves lives too.

A dog doesn’t care if you are rich or poor, clever or dull, smart (or not).

LOVE THIS! It goes for any time you rehome an outside pet. It is so important to keep them contained in a safe space until they get their bearings.

This is what you use to hold vetted cats for a few weeks when you are training them to stay as barn cats . They need time to get use to sounds, smells, noises, other animals and people before you just turn them loose...
A few people recently told me some terrible things concerning rescues just releasing cats in a barn situation and didn't do proper protocol! ( Confinement usually 2 weeks).

“Valerie has had a great first weekend at home! It has been great watching her settle in. She’s made good friends with the couch and enemies with the noisy AC unit😂. Car rides and time outside is her thing during the day; at home she can be extremely quiet until you get her started on a squeak toy then she lets lose! I’m looking forward to seeing her settle in more and more this next week.”

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end...and so it goes with our two week, $32 Chill of a Deal promotion.

BUT YOU DID IT! 10 Adoptions! Words cannot express how much we appreciate our faithful followers for working just as hard as we did over the past 2 weeks to get these pets adopted. Every single COMMENT, LIKE AND SHARE contributed to expanding our reach and getting the pets seen in more feeds. YOU made a difference. A BIG DIFFERENCE!

And of course we are eternally grateful to our adopters. You showed up for some of the most deserving pets. Our hope is that you and your new pet gift each other a lifetime of joy.

While we are both thankful and delighted for our pets & adopters, and while we do have at least a little elbow room now, we are still over crowded with lists a mile long, waiting to come in and so many more on the streets needing our help. Please don't forget us.

We'll be at Smithville Tractor Supply Company next Saturday, August 24 with a few of our pets and future adoption events are in the works. We hope to see you there and we hope to see you SHARE.

BETTER HURRY! Our Real Chill Deal Ends at 4 pm today!

Justice is the final featured pet for our Chill of a Deal promotion, and rightly so. Justice has grown up in this shelter and it's long past time he went to his FOREVER home.

Handsome boy Justice is our “tweenager”, still more puppy than dog, and boy does Justice enjoy a good time! Justice lives his life like a party waiting to happen. And why not? He’s our freedom loving, Happy Independence Boy! On July 3rd,2023 we pulled into the shelter, just like every morning, except THAT morning, we found Justice (along with his sisters Ella & Betsy Rose) had been stuffed in a crate & abandoned in our parking lot. What a way to start a life, eh?

Today, both his sisters have long been in their loving, forever homes yet our sweet Justice remains. We’re not gonna lie, Justice is a good boy, and very, VERY loving but he is a bit on the…ahem…rowdy side. Who wouldn’t be? Growing up in a shelter is NOT for a happy go lucky, freedom loving guy like Justice – and just like every puppy, Justice loves toys, loves to run and play, loves everyone he meets…but above everything else, Justice craves love. You can see it in his eyes. Justice just wants to be free to romp and play and then curl up in your lap and be loved on. Justice just wants YOU.

Lucky for Justice, (and lucky for us), we have a new trainer on site who is working with him, and willing to continue to work with his adopter to help Justice grow up to be the very best boy he can be. Won’t you be the one to give Justice a chance?
