We are so grateful to our partners at Southern Veterinary Center, LLC for helping with our TNR program!
Trap Neuter/Spay Return programs not only help to control the unwanted pet population, but save future generations of kittens that would needlessly suffer from disease, food insecurity, injury, and deadly cold, heat, and flooding.
You can help Southern Vet help more pets in need (including our kitties) by donating to their Angel Fund. Donations can be made by phone- call 615-459-0073!

🎄🐾 Our Angel Tree is Here! 🐾🎄

This holiday season, Rutherford County Cat Rescue is spreading joy with a special Angel Tree for Cats! 🌟

Each angel on our tree represents one of their rescue cats hoping for their holiday wishes to come true. You can:

🎁 Sponsor a cat by picking an angel and fulfilling items on their wish list (toys, food, treats, cozy blankets, etc).

💌 Or, make their dreams come true by giving them the ultimate gift: a forever home! 🏡💖

Help us make this season bright for our feline friends. Stop by, pick your angel, and be part of the magic!

Let’s make it a meow-gical holiday for all! 🎅🐱

Why I Don’t Use Retractable Leashes (and You Might Consider Switching Too)

If you’re using a retractable leash, it’s worth considering the potential risks that come with them. While they seem convenient for giving dogs more freedom, here are a few reasons why they might not be the safest option:

1️⃣ Lack of Control: Retractable leashes can extend up to 26 feet, which gives your dog a lot of freedom, but it also means less control for you. This can be dangerous near roads, other dogs, or unexpected hazards.

2️⃣ Increased Risk of Injury: The thin cord of a retractable leash can snap under pressure, potentially injuring you or your dog. If it tangles around a leg or finger, it can cause burns or even severe cuts.

3️⃣ Poor Training Tool: Dogs often learn to pull when on a retractable leash, as they’re rewarded by more length. This pulling behavior can make regular leash walks frustrating.

4️⃣ Danger in Emergency Situations: If a dog on a retractable leash darts into traffic or after a distraction, reeling them back in isn’t fast enough to prevent harm.

5️⃣ Unreliable Brakes: Many retractable leashes have locking mechanisms that fail, especially over time or with strong dogs.

If you’re looking for a safer alternative, consider a standard 4-6 foot leash. It offers better control, safety, and helps reinforce good leash manners.

Have you experienced any issues with retractable leashes? Let me know your thoughts!

PLEASE call from your car to check in and wait until we instruct you to come in once we have an available room as seating in the lobby is limited.
Thanks for your cooperation and patience during this time, we will continue to keep you updated!

Looking for a little luck and lots of love? We’ve got FIVE adorable black kittens—2 boys and 3 girls—who are around 15 weeks old and ready to bring some magic into your life! They’ve had 2 rounds of vaccines already, so they’re well on their way, but they’ll still need one more round to complete their vaccinations.

✨ Fun Fact: Black cats have a reputation for bringing good luck in many cultures, and they’re known to be super affectionate and loyal.
