Fitness Frenzy Practical Skill Of The Week: Stairs Our practical skill this week is heeling on the stairs. It doesn't matter if it is 2 steps or 200 your dog having good manners on them can be a life saver. Start with your dog on a direct lure next to you in the heel position and fo very slow. As usual heeling lures are best started with our open hand food take drills and I consider this a prerequisit before starting stairs. Teaching your pup to crawl is a great way to improve their body awareness, strengthen muscles, and have some fun together! Here’s how to do it: 1️⃣ Start in a Down Position – lure your dog to lie down on a comfortable surface. 2️⃣ Use a Low Lure – Hold a treat near their nose and slowly move it forward along the ground. 3️⃣ Reward Small Movements – If your dog inches forward while staying low, mark it with “yes!” and reward . 4️⃣ Encourage More Steps – Gradually increase the distance before giving the treat. Teaching your pup to ‘pray’ isn’t just adorable—it’s a great way to bond and build trust! 🙏🐾 Here’s how you can teach this trick in just a few simple steps: 1️⃣ Start with the paws: Encourage your dog to place their paws on a low surface, like a bench or a chair. Use a treat to guide them! 2️⃣ Teach the bow: Hold a treat in front of their nose and slowly lower it. When they dip their head, say “Amen” and reward them immediately. 3️⃣ Combine the moves: Once they’re comfortable with the paw placement and bowing, put it together! Say the command, guide their movements, and reward with lots of love and treats. ✨ Pro Tip: Patience and positivity are key. Dogs learn at their own pace, so celebrate even small wins!
