Where you deliver the treat can shape how your dog moves and holds their head. For example, rewarding from above encourages a focused, upright head posture, while rewarding from the side might lead to a slight tilt. This subtle guidance helps refine behaviors like walking in heel position or maintaining focus.

In this session Kim takes Dori a young Rotwieller through a session working on recalls, down and sit stays and heeling. This session is from a point mid-way through a 5 week board and train at Audax K9 Academy. You will see Dori make incorrect choises at times and I want you to observe the learning process and ask yourself are Kim and Dori having fun?
We present this session without edits so that you can observe the learing process. When dogs are here at Audax K9 for board and train we provide regular updates through private video libraries that we share with the owners.
Training should be fun for us and for our dogs. But living with dogs 24/7, we all know that there are moments of frustration. 🫤
Watching 1000's of people work with their dogs over my career, I see a common trend. Dog owners and handlers have expectations, but fail to communicate them. Handlers may tell the dog they are wrong or are being bad, but they forget to tell the dog what to do.
First, remember to tell your dog what you expect in simple terms. (Think one word)
Then, communicate to your dog if they are right or wrong.
Notice in the video, Catie stopped petting Isaac. He wanted more attention, so he sat up to get more pets. Watch her body language. She sat ads up, put her hands behind her back, and didn't touch him until he did the correct behavior.
Negative attention is still attention. Don't feed the cycle of negative attentive. Reward and reinforce the behaviors that you want to see more of.
Remember, when you communicate your expectations to your dog, it's not a question. It's not a sentence. Help them be successful by keeping it simple.

During today's Advanced Obedience session, our emphasis was on neutral dog work. The class mainly consists of intact, dominant male dogs, making close proximity work a notable challenge. Nevertheless, these well-behaved dogs have demonstrated remarkable progress in maintaining calmness, obedience, and good manners amidst their most significant distractions.

Puppy Bitework! Hagrid is waking up! ⏰️
Hagrid, the Cane Corso, has attended Puppy classes and Basic Obedience Classes. He recently started attending protection training.
📚 Hagrid was so used to Obedience mode at classes that he struggled to have the freedom to play in protection classes. He thought it was Obedience time.
🏖 After spending a week with us, he realized that he can play here also! Watching Hagrid "flip on" was so fun and rewarding.
It's crucial when you have personal protection or sport goals with your dog that you pursue the protection training, aka bitework parallel with the obedience training. Dogs need to learn how to play and that it's OK to play while simultaneously learning the rules of obedience.
