I adopted Lennon from PAWS one month after taking ownership of Bone A Fide. At about a year old Lennon not only found his forever home he was lucky enough to find a home that allowed him to do what he was meant to do.
Lennon spent the next 13 years working by my side at the ranch. Not all of you knew him but every single one of your dogs did and Lennon was a good friend to all of them. He was a true leader and managing a pack of dogs is what he was meant to do. While the human world was a confusing place for him, he loved and trusted people making him a great ambassador for Pit Bulls. He put many owners at ease when they learned we accepted them at the ranch.
Lennon helped more dogs than I can count get comfortable and gain confidence at the ranch. Whether they needed help with the dogs, the staff or learning how to play. He figured out what your dog needed and figured out the best way to help them. He calmed unruly dog’s down, protected and pranced around with the small dogs, and demanded some rules be followed. The biggest being “no fighting over sticks”.
Lennon never used force he simply was and that was enough for your dogs.
They trusted him and like his namesake he really wanted everyone to be together in harmony. When Lennon walked in the yard more dogs ran over to him to say hello than they did me. Your dogs wanted his attention displaying this by licking his face, getting wiggly and submissive and following him around until Lennon told them to go back and play (barked at them). After 13 years it never got old to see.
I learned everything I know about dog behavior from Lennon. He taught me how to listen to dogs. While he didn’t understand what most humans wanted (shake? what is that?) Lennon knew what I wanted without me even asking. He was my business partner, my mentor, and most of all my best friend.
On March 1st Lennon and I took our last walk around the yard together before saying the most painful goodbye. I like to think he has been reunited with some of his old friends from Bone A Fide that we've said goodbye to.
Thank you for being such a good boy! The ranch is lonelier without you. You were always my best employee but now it’s time for you to take a day off. xoxo Lauren
