This is a fun take on our boy Teddy and his cousin Larson wearing pro-collars, but there are benefits for some dogs to wear a pro collar/float collar during swimming.
When dogs wear pro or float collars while swimming, it helps keep their heads afloat and their ears dry. Here's how:
Head Support and Buoyancy: Some dogs may struggle to keep their heads above water, especially if they are older or swimming for long periods. A pro collar, which is inflatable or padded, can help provide buoyancy and ensure that the dog's head stays above the water level, making swimming easier and safer. This is particularly helpful for dogs that are older, not strong swimmers or have difficulty staying afloat.
Ear Protection: Many dogs, especially those with floppy ears (like Cocker Spaniels or Basset Hounds), are prone to ear infections or irritation when water enters their ears. A pro collar helps keep their ears dry by preventing the water from entering their ear canals while they swim. Moisture in the ears can lead to bacterial or fungal infections, so keeping them dry is important for maintaining their health, especially during swimming.
In these cases, the collar acts as both a buoyancy aid and a protection mechanism to ensure the dog can swim safely while also safeguarding their sensitive ears.
