I love hearing stories about the horses the pros learned on. Not every horse can be a “superstar”, but every horse can teach us, the riders, something!

Several Elon officers train at my gym, Combat Base Carolina. They are heading up to the mountains for relief work this weekend and we are gathering supplies to send with them.
If you would like to contribute please bring items to the barn and I can take them with me to the gym tomorrow evening.

We had a great show at Sport of Horses a week ago! I'm so behind with my posts unfortunately.

*Kelli & Mardi were second in the Starter CT
*Monte had an important first outing in his retraining process. He wasn't as relaxed as I had hoped, but made it through the day with a couple of nice moments! 😊
*Emily & Jewel took second in the GAG CT
This was their debut CT and they rocked! So happy for this pair and far they have come!
*Martha had a great first outing with her new mare, Jetta! They were second and third in the intro B & C with good scores 66% & 68%!
*Maddie & Roy were third in the intro C!
*Stephanie & Shrimp added some nice details to their second ride at 1st level scoring a 64% and placing second!
*And last but not least Samba is officially a second level horse now. He nailed his debut winning the class with a 69%!!

Thank you to everyone for choosing us for your riding and training!

Good training is often boring to watch if you don't know what you're looking at.
Also, it's important to differentiate between repetition with reward from prolonged drilling until the horse or human are fatigued and frustrated.

I read a theory about why so many riders lack a deep command of basics, and it was explained like this---

Correct basics are hard to master because there is an enormous amount of repetition involved, and if someone has tried something hundreds, possibly thousands of times, and still can’t do it, it is easy for the person to conclude that he/she is taking on an impossible challenge.

In his book “Mastery,” George Leonard wrote that on the quest to become good, there will be long stretches of “seeming non-improvement.”

Like watching grass grow, change is happening, but so slowly that it can’t be measured daily, weekly, or even monthly. But at some point, for those who stick with it, “suddenly” they can do things that before they couldn’t do.

The issue is giving up in frustration before putting in those many many many many months of practice.

That is ONE theory. I am sure there are many others, but this one does ring true.

We had a fantastic weekend at the War Horse Event Series this past weekend! We made a clean sweep of the GAG Jr division!

Madison & Abram took home the blue in GAG Jr class A. They finished on their dressage score, an impressive 22.5!
Gabby & Samba won the GAG Jr class B also finishing on their dressage score. This was Gabby's first full horse trial and she made it through the three phases like a pro!
So proud of these two girls and the work they've put in!

Hey everyone, a client was going to ride in a clinic with Brian MacMahon on Friday early afternoon. Her horse has an abscess and cannot ride. Checking to see if any of my other clients would like her spot. Cost is $160 for 45 minutes.
I spent two weeks training with Brian in FL earlier this year and highly recommend him as an instructor. He's an accomplished FEI rider and trainer and R dressage judge.
DM Lindsay if you'd like this spot.

Hey everyone, our stall maintenance and back up feeder is going to be out for around two months recovering from an injury. We are looking for temporary help with cleaning stalls and sweeping up barns a couple days a week. There is potential for a more permanent position to be offered if you come in and knock our socks off with your work ethic and attention to detail.
You will be part of a team that operates a farm running 1) beginner lesson program and 2) training, lessons, and board for sport horses. So if part time work doing stall maintenance, feedings, or growth into a potential working student position is something you're interested in please contact us!

We enjoyed hosting an awesome Working Equitation clinic here on the Feb 16th-17th taught by Rolf Janzen of Germany. He was so correct and methodical in how he taught each horse and rider pair throughout each day. Hosting was a fun opportunity to meet new horses and riders from around NC, VA, and Maryland.
Thank you to Lisa Mayhew for organizing this for everyone!

Just a reminder to everyone that the Rolf Janzen Working Equitation clinic is happening here tomorrow. Open to all auditors. However, special pricing is available for active Heritage Stables clients to audit.
Rolf is here from Germany for the next two days teaching at Heritage Stables! So excited to host our first international clinician!

Merry Christmas from Heritage Stables!

Hey Everyone, there is an opening for part time work doing feedings and possibly other chores here at Heritage Stables. Contact us through this page or Kelsie or Lindsay's DM's if you would like to apply.

We need thoroughbreds on staff here, not donkeys. So here are some basic prerequisites:
* We know you or you have referrals from people we know and trust.
* Reliable transportation, (prefer someone with a driver's license & car who can get to the barn without drama; although, we've had exceptional young people with dedicated parents work in the past.)
* Must be able to work outside in all types of weather.
* Must be able to do lots of walking and lifting.
* Must be able to handle leading young and old horses, giving meds, and noticing and reporting immediately if a horse looks lame or unwell.

Common misconceptions of barn jobs is that you brush, pet, or ride horses all day. This job DOES NOT include riding opportunities. You will be paid for helping care for the horses. You will not be asked to ride any horses.
