I know it's hard to believe, but I had heard enough RUMORS about them as well as personal experience to try and talk Nathan out of getting a Chessie! (For those of you who didn't know Max originally belonged to my brother in law Nathan.) I had my dad's experience with his Chessie lashing out at my pregnant mother, and a Chessie I had met at my work, who I was informed would often snap at his owner
for seemingly no reason. And living with a dozen nieces and nephews I didn't see how a Chessie would fit into the family. Though I did stop persisting and actually found a breeder just to have a puppy around. BOY was I ever wrong! A Chesapeake raised with the right surroundings is an AMAZING family dog. Max really has a one of a kind attitude and Kyra does as well. But be aware these are NOT first time dog owner dogs! Nor are they a great dog to be left alone at a farm! THEY NEED TO BE SOCIALIZED!! I now have two Chessies! I love this breed and I want to share them with EVERYONE!! Look for our first litter in 2016! All of our dogs will be health tested.
Gorgeous high drive boy ready. He's the last of his litter. He had a home but at no fault of his own, they backed out. He is an amazing boy ready to be taken any direction. Loves his kennel, but is still learning. Steady to new objects and sweet as can be.
Since originally starting with Chessies in 2012, I was hesitant due to rumors about their temperament. How nasty they could be. It started my desire to breed and see those rumors squashed. Because though Max(12years young this year) could be protective, he was NOT mean.
These dogs were bred to hunt all day in the frigid waters of the Maryland Bay. Bringing in a commercial quantity of waterfowl for their handlers. Then staying with the boat to guard it, there is a level of protective nature to them. That's part of what makes a chessie a chessie, but it DOES NOT define them! They should still be docile and calm in stressful situations. They should be able to be handled and be level minded.
I have worked hard in my program bring that level of temperament into the breed and my lines. To make dogs that can hunt all day, or can sleep on the couch with your kids. But that will be ready to defend what's theirs is the need arises.
Makai is an excellent example of this temperament. He has his faults, all dogs do. That's what selective breeding is for.
He recently passed his hip and elbow examine with a Good/Normal. He is DM clear and otherwise clear by parentage for PRA, EIC, and ED. He will be embark tested for confirmation.
I've been behind and we thought this guy had a home. Unfortunately that didn't work out for him :(
But that means he still has a family waiting.
Azriel is a firecracker. He is all go and needs a direction, nothing phases him!! I love this puppies temperament!! But he loves using his teeth. Recommend a home with older kids because he likes to nip.

Blue collar is Azriel, he is a sweet boy, but he is nippy. He has a good coat and great build. But will need work to keep his mouth to himself.
Black Collar is Rhysand and is he independent. He can be aloof and stubborn. Only recommended for Chessie experienced home. He will look right at you and ignore you.
Brown Collar sedge pup is Lucien. He is a sedge and therefore can be more sensitive. He takes a little longer to warm up, but he isn't anxious or nervous. He is a lover and rolls right over for belly rubs with a smile. He roos and has a silly grin.
Feyre is the only female. Teal collar. She is little and tenacious! She will be the fun police like her Grandma. She loves being the center of attention.
