There’s a new veterinary cardiologist closer to home. So glad to read this!

We are excited to welcome Renee Riepe, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology) to our hospital!!! Dr. Riepe is a board certified cardiologist with over 25 years of experience in Metro Detroit at a prominent Specialty Hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center. Originally from Kentucky, Dr. Riepe joined our BVS + AE team full time earlier this month.

As the Internal Medicine Student of the Year at the University of Tennessee, Dr. Riepe furthered specialized her skills through cardiology training at the University of Illinois under Dr. David Sisson. She continues to share her knowledge with the veterinary community through lectures at national conventions and teaching at both veterinary and veterinary technician schools.

Dr Riepe emphasizes client education and tailors treatment plans to meet each patient's unique needs. With her expertise in cardiac care, we hope to enhance the survival rates of pets with various heart conditions here in Lexington and the surrounding communities.

Outside of BVS + AE, Dr. Riepe is involved in the equine community. She is the owner of several horses as well as a donkey, dogs, birds and cats.

WELCOME TO BVS!!!!!

Excellent advice from BGVS. Also, we are open today. ☺️

Pet parents, winter is here! Before you go out adventuring, pack accordingly and remember that extreme cold can be dangerous for both you and your furry friends.

Temperature: Small dogs or dogs with thin coats may start to become uncomfortable in temperatures below 45°F. You can try a jacket or dog coat to help keep in their body temp. Its best to find a waterproof one.

Signs of discomfort: Watch for signs that your dog is too cold, such as shivering, whining, a lowered tail, slowing down, or seeking warmth.

Ice balls: Trim the hair between your dog's toes to prevent ice balls from forming.

Boots: Consider boots for your dog if you'll be hiking on hard surfaces that could cause paw pad injuries.

P**p bags: Always bring p**p bags and pack out the waste.

Hydration: Bring fresh water for yourself and your fur-friend. A collapsible bowl is easy enough to tote along and remember, eating snow is not enough for our 4-legged companions.

01/10/2025

Due to the snow moving in and in consideration of our staff and clients we are closing today at noon. We will (hopefully) be back in the office tomorrow at 9. If you have an emergency please call the office for the doctor on call. Stay safe and warm everyone!

Are you and your pets ready for the winter storm? We are in the office today until 5. If you need medication refills or pet food please come on in and stock up. Otherwise, please make sure your pets have a warm dry place to seek shelter as we get really cold over the next week. For bedding straw is superior to blankets or hay. Make sure their water isn’t frozen. Better yet, if you can, just bring them inside. Stay safe everyone!

Another warning regarding raw milk and meat.

ALERT: The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is advising residents to not feed their pets Monarch Raw Pet Food sold at several farmers markets in California due to detection of H5 bird flu virus in product samples.

Residents who fed their pets Monarch raw pet food products or other raw meat or dairy products and notice their pet is experiencing symptoms should immediately contact their veterinarian.

Additionally, residents should avoid consumption of all raw milk and raw meat products and not feed these to their pets. LA County Public Health recently confirmed H5 bird flu in four house cats from a separate household that consumed recalled raw milk and became sick and died, which is part of an ongoing investigation. We would like to congratulate Mary Wiggins. She was the winner of our quilt we raffled off to benefit our Angel Fund. This fund was established to help our patients needing treatment but whose owners couldn’t afford such. The quilt was donated by a client (who wishes to remain anonymous but was thankful to our clinic for treatment of their pet.) Pictured is Jennifer Wiggins, accepting the quilt on behalf of Mary. Thank you to all who donated. Merry Christmas!
