Amelia Newcomb's Equine Services works to develop a trusting and confident relationship between horse and rider. Using theories from both natural horsemanship and classical dressage, Amelia creates a holistic approach to training that adapts to fit the needs of each individual horse and rider. Her approach incorporates all pieces of horsemanship from basic groundwork and ground manners to advanced

dressage movements. The emphasis is always on the foundation with the basic trust, understanding, and relaxation for both horse and rider as the building blocks to harmony and progress. After starting over 100 horses, Amelia has developed a step by step method that gently and methodically introduces the young horse to accept and carry a rider. She believes that the first couple months under saddle are the MOST important in any horses' long career. It is essential that the initial training is done correctly and carefully to ensure that each horse develops confidence in themselves and trust in the rider.

๐Ÿ‡ Riding in a clinic is an honor and a huge learning opportunity. Last weekend, I was so excited to ride with Steffen Peters on Harvey and Kensington, my FEI horses! ๐Ÿคฉ As a five-time Olympian and medalist, Steffen is an incredible horseman, rider, and trainer. I learned so much from him and I appreciate his commitment to a happy, healthy, and enthusiastic horse. ๐Ÿฆ„ One thing that I always do after a lesson is jot down notes about what we worked on. ๐Ÿ“ That helps me remember and implement the ideas into my training. I highly recommend that you take notes after your lessons.

Today I thought that I would share my notes from the clinic with you! ๐Ÿฅณ I hope that you enjoy these notes and that they inspire you to continue learning and improving. I LOVE that even though I have ridden and trained more than 50,000 hours in my career, I am still learning and improving! ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Every single horse is a little different. ๐Ÿ’ž We have to find what works for them and help them understand. I love learning, I love riding, and being around Steffen always leaves me inspired! ๐Ÿคฉ

My husband, Germรกn LOVES the shoulder-in to renvers exercise because it supples your horse. ๐Ÿ‡ This movement is first seen in Third Level Test 2. While this exercise is very difficult to ride well, it improves your horseโ€™s straightness, suppleness, balance, and overall control. ๐Ÿ’ฏ It will enhance your horse's ability to respond to subtle aids, isolate and control their body parts, and smoothly transition between movements.

๐ŸŽฅ In this video, I asked my husband, Germรกn, to break down the shoulder-in to renvers movements and my assistant Caine is demonstrating the exercise as Germรกn coaches her though it. ๐Ÿ™‹ Before you watch the video, here's a breakdown of this important exercise:

๐‘ผ๐’๐’…๐’†๐’“๐’”๐’•๐’‚๐’๐’…๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘บ๐’‰๐’๐’–๐’๐’…๐’†๐’“-๐‘ฐ๐’

โ†—๏ธ The shoulder-in is a lateral movement where your horseโ€™s shoulders are brought in off the track with bend in the horses body. ๐Ÿ‘‰ This puts the horse on three tracks: one for the outside hind leg, one for the inside hind leg and outside front leg, and one for the inside front leg. โš–๏ธ This exercise not only improves balance and suppleness but also helps in developing the horseโ€™s engagement of the hindquarters.

๐‘ผ๐’๐’…๐’†๐’“๐’”๐’•๐’‚๐’๐’…๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘น๐’†๐’๐’—๐’†๐’“๐’”

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ An easy way to remember renvers is to say, "renvers = shoulder-in, 'wrong bend.'" Renvers, or haunches-out, is the same positioning as shoulder-in but you change the bend. In renvers, the horse's shoulders are brought in off the track and the horse is counter-bending towards the rail. ๐Ÿด Renvers is performed on four tracks. ๐Ÿ’ช This movement further challenges your horseโ€™s balance and engagement by requiring a shift in bend and positioning... Comment "lateral work" below and I'll send you the link to read the full post and watch the video!

Do you want your horse to be ๐Ÿ‘‡:

โœ… Responsive to your aids?
โœ… Easier to sit and balance?
โœ… Healthier and more sound?

๐Ÿฅณ Of course, you do! And guess what? Riding your horse round will help solve all of these problems. ๐Ÿคฉ When our horses are round, they are more in tune with us, more balanced, and more comfortable to ride. ๐Ÿด Plus, when your horse is round, it is much easier and healthier for them to carry you, and helps them stay sound longer.

๐ŸŽ The first step to getting your horse round is understanding contact and connection. And you're in luck because I'm doing a Free Contact and Connection Webinar! ๐ŸŽ‰ If you need help understanding contact and connection and getting your horse round, RSVP and come LIVE to my FREE Contact and Connection Webinar. I've designed this webinar to give you the knowledge you need to have a more supple, connected, and round horse. ๐Ÿ’ฏ

30 ๐ท๐‘Ž๐‘ฆ๐‘  ๐‘ก๐‘œ ๐‘…๐‘œ๐‘ข๐‘›๐‘‘ is back, and I'm so excited to help you and your horse find harmony, balance, and softness over the next 30 Days. ๐Ÿฅณ This is my third year doing this program, and I can't wait to see the transformations from students at the end of the month and hear their stories. ๐ŸŽ Here's one story from one of my students, Jayne:

๐Ÿ‡โ€œโ€˜Get him rounder!โ€ my trainer yelled.

Well, that was all well and good, and if I could, believe me I WOULD! But no matter what I did, my horse's head kept shooting straight up in the air. He absolutely refused to go round. My shoulders ached, my back hurt and my horse was as frustrated as I was. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

โœ…But then, I found Amelia and started watching her videos. And within 3 schooling sessions my horse was going forward, was relaxed and supple, and more importantlyโ€ฆ was round!โ€ ~Jayne

โ™ฅ๏ธ I LOVE getting testimonials like these.

๐Ÿฆ„ We want the best for our equine partners! But, riding can often end with everyone upset and stressed out.

๐ŸคฆIt does NOT have to be this way!

โš’๏ธIf you struggle to get and keep your horse round, youโ€™re not alone. Itโ€™s the biggest problem I encounter with the thousands of students I teach.

โ˜˜๏ธLuckily, I have cracked the code to get your horse round in easy and simple steps that you can implement in only 30 days.

๐Ÿด Is your horse inconsistent in the contact? Are your hands moving ALL OVER THE PLACE? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Is your coach is always yelling โ€œKeep your hands still!!โ€, but you just canโ€™t seem to find a steady, soft contact? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

๐ŸŽฅ Todayโ€™s video is all about how to stop moving your hands all over the place! I remember watching myself ride and being so embarrassed about how much my hands moved that I set a reminder on my phone to remind myself to keep my hands still before every ride. ๐Ÿ“ฒ Busy hands are really common. So, how do you keep your hands from moving all over? ๐Ÿซฃ

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ Before we get into the tips, I just wanted to remind you about my FREE Webinar on Contact and Connection. Here are my three tips to keep your hands quiet ๐Ÿ‘‡:

๐ŸŽ ๐“๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ค ๐€๐›๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐’๐ž๐š๐ญ โ€“ If you find that your hands are moving all over, focus on riding from your seat and your center. The main purpose of your seat is to follow and absorb the motion of your horse. Often if you improve your seat, you will improve your hands because you will be more in sync with your horseโ€™s movement.

๐Ÿ’ช ๐…๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐„๐ฅ๐›๐จ๐ฐ๐ฌ โ€“ Just like our seat needs to move with the motion of our horseโ€™s back, our elbows/hands need to move with the nod of our horseโ€™s head. Your elbows need to bend and straighten in order to follow your horse as you are riding. If your elbows are stiff, you will pull on your horse and it will be very uncomfortable for both of you! In order for it to look like your hands are still, they actually need to follow the motion of your horseโ€™s neck... One of the most common struggles I see riders having with their horses is that they canโ€™t maintain a steady contact. ๐Ÿค” Does this sound like you? Your horse is inconsistent, you feel like your hands are all over the place, you have trouble turning and steering, and you canโ€™t get your horse round no matter how hard you try! ๐Ÿด If this is you, then youโ€™ll enjoy this weekโ€™s video.

๐ŸŽฅ In the video, Iโ€™m going over my top three tips for establishing a steady contact. But, before we get into the tips, I wanted to remind you to RSVP for my Free Contact and Connection Webinar happening this week! ๐Ÿ‡ In this webinar I will teach you my simple four-step process for riding your horse round. Okay, now onto the tips! ๐Ÿฅณ Here are my top three tips for establishing a steady contact:

Before you even think about establishing a steady contact, itโ€™s super important to get your horse forward and in front of your leg. ๐ŸŽ If you feel safe, itโ€™s best if you can work on this with a loose rein. Work on getting a nice active gait by counting the rhythm, focusing on your seat following the rhythm, and maintaining your alignment: ear, shoulder, hip, and heel... ๐Ÿ‘‡ Comment below "contact" and I'll send you the link to read all three tips and watch the video!

โ“ Are you sick and tired of pulling?

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ Are you like me? I spent years trying to find the secret sauce to get my horse โ€˜rounderโ€™ but no matter what I did, I always ended up confused and frustrated. ๐Ÿฅต I felt like I was squeezing and holding and my horse got more stiff and resistant. ๐Ÿซฃ

๐Ÿด I love riding and I love my horses. ๐Ÿ’• I love feeling connection and harmony and I strive to communicate with the softest and lightest aids possible. Nothing is more magical than when it feels as if your horse is reading your thoughts ๐Ÿ˜‡, and nothing is worse than feeling like you're kicking and pulling trying to force your horse to cooperate! ๐Ÿฅต

๐ŸŽฅ In today's video, we're diving into the concept of self-carriageโ€”what it is, why it's important, and how to develop it in your horse. Self-carriage can seem a bit mysterious, but when you experience it, it's an incredible feeling. ๐Ÿคฉ It's when your horse feels like they are floating, and they maintain their movement without constant reminders or aids from you. ๐Ÿด It is through self-carriage that we can develop invisible aids, harmony, and balance with our horses.

๐Ÿค” Is your horse in self-carriage? Here's a practical test for the next time you're riding: push your heels down and give the reins for three or four strides. ๐Ÿ‡ If nothing changes, your horse is in self-carriage. If your horse slows down or their head comes up, they are not in self-carriage. ๐Ÿš— Your horse should go forward like cruise control in a car. Set the speed and they should maintain it. Period. No nagging. ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Her approach incorporates all pieces of horsemanship from basic groundwork and ground manners to advanced dressage movements. The emphasis is always on the foundation with the basic trust, understanding, and relaxation for both horse and rider as the building blocks to harmony and progress. Amelia specializes in starting young dressage horses. After starting over 100 horses, Amelia has developed a step by step method that gently and methodically introduces the young horse to accept and carry a rider. It is essential that the initial training is done correctly and carefully to ensure that each horse develops confidence in themselves and trust in the rider.
