One more sleep till the New Year 🎉🎊

FDR has big goals for 2025, the most important never changes…we will try to save as many dogs as we can! Shelters are overcrowded, people are dumping dogs at an alarming rate and truthfully it’s hard to keep up, yet we persist with the help of everyone who tirelessly fights for the precious lives that deserve the world❣️

🐾 Kip is our beautiful, mahogany Cattle Dog/Heeler mix. We think he’s about 8 or 9 years old and he’s a dream to walk! So well behaved on leash, Kip is a true gentleman, knows commands and is still learning new things like “place”. He’s a smart boy, and although he can be a little finicky with some other dogs on leash, nobody’s perfect, but he comes pretty close 🤩

Who needs a Bathtub loving Boy?! 🛁🐶

As promised, our second is ⭐️Tybalt⭐️

🐾 Ty was on the streets of San Francisco begging for food from construction workers who responded by throwing things at him 😔A good samaritan saw this, got Ty’s attention and he came up to her. She then brought him to a shelter in San francisco where they had him for 2 weeks before alerting her that they were going to put him down for space. She went and picked him up and was driving to every rescue asking them to take him and no one would. She showed up in our parking lot and we gladly gave him the 2nd chance he deserves. Since being in our care, he’s done amazingly well with dogs 40+lbs, loves to play ball and go on hikes, and loves to snuggle under the blankets. Not to mention his favorite activity… chillin in the bathtub 😎

🐾This lovable guy is a strong yet gentle soul. He walks nicely on a leash and takes treats with the utmost gentleness. Ready to give and receive love in abundance, Ty is looking for his forever home! If you are interested in Fostering or Adopting Tybalt please fill out an application!

Meet ✨Lucy✨our sweet little ball of love who was actually adopted out in November and through no fault of her own was returned. Lucy is currently in foster with one of our volunteers and this is what her kids wrote about little Lucy:

“This holiday season, we decided to foster Lucy. (2.5 years old). Lucy is extremely friendly, energetic and great with kids. She is a great walker and plays wonderfully with our current dog. She is great in the car, quiet, sleeps through the night and crate trained. She loves playing with toys or snuggles. We can vouch that Lucy would be a wonderful addition to any family. ⭐️Wishing for a miracle for Bane ⭐️

🐾Bane had been adopted out earlier this year but unfortunately it didn’t work out as we had hoped and he is still looking for his forever family!
Bane is already a in our hearts because before coming to Family Dog Rescue, this sweet guy was dumped in the farmland of the central valley. A neighbor reached out to FDR because he was being harmed and even shot at. A kindhearted farmer took him in after he was discovered drinking the goats’ water and foraging for food for months. He’s around 4.5 years old and we believe a Mastiff / Akbash mix.

He’s lived with cats, livestock, chickens, and five other dogs. He hasn’t lost faith in people either which is truly what makes him a . If you are interested or know someone, please fill out an application to meet him today. He truly does deserve a forever family before the new year!

🪽Today’s post is a dedication in loving memory of the that are no longer with us.

At FDR we take in hard cases- the dogs that will almost certainly be euthanized because other shelters don’t have the space, funding or time to rehabilitate and care for their special medical and behavioral needs. Try as we may, sometimes a dog’s fate is out of our hands and they cross the rainbow bridge before reaching a new home 🌈 Such was the case of sweet ✨Rufus✨

Our cuddly German Shepherd needed entropion surgery to eliminate the irritation, pain and swelling of his eye. Unfortunately, his surgery was delayed as he battled a heart worm infection. When he was finally cleared for surgery, his tender heart was too badly damaged from the long term infection and he passed away under anesthesia during the procedure 💔 Rufus was truly loved by all FDR staff and volunteers. He happily guarded our resident, rescued pigs and was otherwise a happy boy on the farm. We take comfort in knowing that he is pain free and running through golden fields somewhere over the rainbow 🤍

To all the dogs we’ve lost along the way, to the ones we couldn’t save and to all the special four pawed angels we think of you today ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🩷

⭐️Meet Hopper today’s a Great Pyrenees mix around 11 months old.⭐️

🐾The reason for his name “hopper” is because he has a neurologically condition but that doesn’t take away from him being a smart, sweet, loving, gentle giant that is ready to learn. His neurological condition only appears to affect the way he walks (hopping) and the way he eats; he eats with his tongue out but that does not slow down how much this boy enjoys eating! He has been around a few of the kids who volunteer at Family Dog and he has been sweet and loving towards them all! He has gotten along with all dogs he has been around since he has been here. ⭐️ Happy Holidays!🎄We bring you a special post on this festive eve. Happy Gotcha Day (take 2) for Harley ⭐️

Harley aka Pretty Puppy Princess, Gremlin Girl, the Goodest Girl fka Ms. Bashful first came to FDR late last year when her Mom, Sadie, was found in Bakersfield hiding her sweet litter under a trailer. Little Harley, the shyest of the bunch, was adopted out in February, but she was not thriving in her city home and was dropped off to a shelter in SF. Luckily, she was networked back to FDR and just as soon as she arrived one of our volunteers immediately agreed to foster her ☃️

An update from her new Mom and family: “After losing my soul dog last year, I didn’t think I’d ever be ready to bring another dog into my life, so I started volunteering at FDR which was one of the only things that got me through a difficult time. When I saw Harley, she reluctantly took a treat and then put her little paw in my hand. After taking her home, it took patience, training and a TON of treats to start helping her work through her fears. A few months later, she is not scared by some of her initial triggers and is slowly accepting new hoomans into her pack. We truly believe every dog, regardless of any behavioral challenge, is deserving of a loving home and the joy, smiles and laughter she brings to our days is more than worth the effort. She is happily zooming through our house, torturing her😸sister Carley and loves going for walks. She is the best miracle we could have asked for” ♥️✨

⭐️Today’s is a double miracle story! Meet Moonshine fka as Clare Dane and Boots fka Zoey⭐️

🐾Moonshine is a Great Dane who came to us visually impaired and totally deaf, so we weren’t sure if we’d find a family that would want to take this on.
To our surprise and miracle, there was someone who came SO prepared. She had undertaken a lot of reading & research on deaf & blind dogs before her meet & was totally prepared to take a deaf + blind dog home! Not only did she want Moonshine, but she also adopted Boots, an Aussie mix, to give Moonshine a companion!
🐾They fit right in to her little ranch in Smith Valley, Nevada, where they spend the weekends running on two acres of land, playing tug-a-war with their rope, and chasing rabbits, squirrels and birds. During the week, they have a second home in Reno, where they are pampered at home and go with her to work. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect outcome than this for Moonshine and Boots!

⭐️Two sleeps until Christmas!🎄We are thrilled that our little Paloma now Polly is in her forever home sleeping soundly with her family⭐️

🐾 Her new pawrents shared a heartfelt update that says everything we could pawssibly say about this amazing girl, so without further ado:

“Paloma, now called Polly, is doing very well. She inspires us every day with her resilience. She adapted very fast to our home. She may be differently abled (blind and deaf) but that doesn’t stop her from living a normal dog life. She’s very affectionate, adventurous, intelligent, loves daily walks, going to the dog park, exploring new places, finding treats in her dog puzzle, playing with her sister Bella, and cuddles with her humans on the sofa in the evenings. We have only had to make very minor adjustments to keep her safe (guard rail on the deck, mat at the top of the stairs so she knows where the stairs begin, and being her seeing eye human when we go for walks steering her away from objects so she doesn’t run into them). We have taught her to sit (two taps on her shoulder blade), and no (one tap on the neck), coming soon: stay and lay down. She learned to use the pet door to the back yard in less than an hour (a record for pets in our house) and is fully housetrained. Thank you Family Dog Rescue for saving her, she is truly amazing. I hope others will be inspired to give differently abled dogs a chance” ♥️🏠

🐾Sage was found abandoned in a Bakersfield orchard, initially shy and scared. She’s now learning the meaning of love and kindness, revealing her soft, sweet, and gentle nature. It’s a miracle and with time and care, Sage is blossoming into a loyal & spunky dog. She is eager to be by her person’s side. 💙⭐️Today’s dedication is a little different⭐️💙

Instead of posting a MiracleDog we are PLEADING for a Miracle to happen for one of our most loving and deserving boys in need of a home, Bobbie 🐶

Bobbie did not overcome any medical hardships or major behavioral issues. He has, however, been with us since he was 2 months old and while his siblings all found their furever homes, he is still waiting ever so patiently for his 😔

We are truly baffled how this handsome boy has not been swooped up. He has a beautiful coat, the kindest eyes and sweetest spirit. Despite his size, he is gentle and well mannered, plays nicely with dogs of all sizes and though he can be toy and food possessive it’s truly no fault of his own. Growing up in a shelter can be challenging and we are confident that once he is in a loving home and with training can overcome those behaviors. Always up for an adventure, Bobbie is the best friend you could ask for- he is so easy going that he was fine with riding in the trunk of one of our volunteer’s cars after an event 🤪- dont worry he did not travel en trunk. Bobbie is desperately seeking his soulmate(s) and while we give him as much love as we can, he needs his forever person/family ♥️🤎

⭐️Meet Friday’s Spencer!⭐️

🐾When Spencer first arrived, he was in rough shape, battling a severe upper respiratory infection and sporting some intimidating snaggle teeth. Thanks to the dedicated care and attention of his foster family, along with intensive medical treatment, Spencer began his journey towards recovery.
After undergoing dental surgery to remove 13 teeth, Spencer emerged with a new lease on life and a quirky personality emerged along with his cute Gremlin-like ears 😈 His zest for life is evident in his playful antics and bursts of activity, reminding us all that every moment is worth savoring. Spencer is now living his best life with a family that loves him dearly!

✨ continues today with a special ✨

Some of you may recognize this gorgeous husky girl, but when she first came to FDR she was underweight and had HUNDREDS of foxtails embedded in her. She was found running around Bakersfield and we think she may have been on her own out there for a year based on the severity of her wounds.

Today, our miraculous ⭐️Silvie⭐️ is doing better than ever, fully recovered and absolutely over the moon in love with her Dad 🩵 She follows him everywhere and her hooman sister says she pouts by the door when he leaves. Her furever Dad loves going on walkies with her, especially during the colder seasons when he notices that she really comes alive and in true Husky spirit struts through the chilly air like a queen of the forest 🐺❄️

This sweet boy arrived a few days after having been hit by a car. He’s suffered minor injuries all of which have thankfully healed. He’s sweet and great with other dogs. He loves people! ⭐️ Today’s is Lenny ⭐️

FKA as “Faith” he truly embodies the essence of a miracle. Lenny was found on a busy highway with the word “Faith” written in green marker across his side. A former FDR adopter saved Lenny from running into traffic and brought him to us. This sweet baby loved to cuddle with staff and volunteers and was adopted shortly after 🏠💚

We don’t know why this sweet soul was abandoned, we are just relieved that his story had a happy instead of tragic ending 🙏🏼 Many of the dogs FDR takes in are dogs like Lenny who are dumped in remote areas and left to fend for themselves. We truly need your help to continue this life saving work 🤍

⭐️Meet Mary Jane ⭐️

🐾Abandoned when her previous owner moved, this dog had been neglected for some time and needed to be checked by the vet asap. It was determined that she had low-thyroid which was a result of her being overweight and lethargic.
wasn’t going to let her down and she is now on the right meds making her feel alive again! Active and a loving goof ball, Mary Jane can also be chill around other dogs/animals, children and loves exploring. ⭐️🤎Our beloved TANKIE is today’s 🤎⭐️

His before pictures tell the story of a dog built strong and sweet at heart. Looking at his scars we saw his dark past and how despite being kept in a wired cage and used as a bait dog he maintained his good natured spirit and looked at us with trust and love♥️ His feet did not develop properly from being confined to a cage and he suffered from allergies and infections. We cleaned him up, gave him medication and his healing journey began. He now enjoys the warmth and comfort of a home with his wondering adopter and his older brother 🐾☃️

like Tankie are resilient! Good samaritans along with FDR’s wonderful staff and volunteers loved and nurtured him, but we also need your help to continue giving deserving dogs like Tankie care 🙏🏼

He came to us in bad shape, but we got him the medical care he needed and helped him heal. He's been patiently waiting for his forever home.
