Illinois Department of Natural Resources is monitoring a large-scale waterfowl mortality event in Illinois caused by highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). While the risk to the general population remains low, stay safe and informed with these tips:
π Do not handle or attempt to capture sick or dead birds.
πΎ Keep pets away from bird carcasses to prevent infection.
βοΈ Report dead birds, especially 5+ at one location, to IDNR at https://wildlifeillinois.org/idnr-district-wildlife-biologist/
π€ Report flu-like symptoms after exposure to sick or dead birds to your local health department immediately.
