When there are few posts from me, that tells you I have been VERY busy. This has been an especially busy couple of weeks but I just had to take time to share these special training moments.
This is Good Boy Curley #2
Sat. Rick & Maryl attended class to see their boy at work and to work with him later. This is the first one and I must say, I was very proud of Mr Curley!
A Fitting Celebration..... and Kathie did not bring cookies!
I just had to share this one!
On Thursday, Barb arrived and joined us for class. She had fun but Barb was here to meet a very special girl and it seems that they both enjoyed the visit. I'm very sure Barb WILL be back!
Well, that was a beneficial 15 minutes!
I couldn't get much air but did my best and Frolic/Freda came through like champs!
After a wonderful class yesterday, look who ended up on my doorstep!
Gary & Mary Ann picked him up from Sara in the morning and headed here. He did great on the 6 hour car ride and immediately Sizzy took over as his teacher.
Yesterday he was fine but really noticing how much the world had suddenly changed. Today, nothing is bothering him because Sizzy told him so!
Believe me Sizzy is an amazing dog and she raises every puppet to be the same!
When Kathie first joined "the family" she was struggling and she needed not only a service dog, but even more an Emotional Support Dog. She latched on to a beautiful Golden who was sweet and patient.
Brandy introduced Kathie to the benefits of having a Dog of Service and brought Kathie along. Kathie made some mistakes but she had learned and trudged through the first chapter of her journey.
Due to some health and soundness issues, Brandy had to retire. We talked about the next chapter and what needed to change. It ended up that I had a litter of Airedale X Australian Shepherd babies and one was perfect for Kathie, who was determined to "Do It Right!"
It would have been better if Kiowa would have stayed with me and Kathie would have come out to work with her BUT Kathie was determined to raise and train the puppy herself.
There are things that could have been done better or different but all in all Kiowa is a fantastic dog. Unfortunately a person is only able to teach what they know and too much of a good thing is too much of a good thing. So Kathie raised Kiowa as she was raised and ended up with a four legged, wire haired version of herself. There is nothing wrong with either of them but both are very worried about making decisions, lack some confidence and are sometimes not comfortable is chaotic social situations.
Kiowa is now 9 1/2 and working part time. That means Kathie is in need of a new employee. So Kathie did her homework and decided an Australian Shepherd would fit in perfectly. (Kathie told me her choice and I made the call!) In less than a week, two Aussie girls took up residence in my kennel. Kathie chose the red one and is again determined to "Do It Right!"
Kiowa has taught Kathie what she wants and what she doesn't want. This 2nd Chapter has been beautiful to watch as it unfolded but the 3rd Chapter is gonna be the best one yet. The day before this video I worked Sorta for about 45 min. This was her second official time of tr
There were so many wonderful lessons and training opportunities. I look at all the photos & videos and I can't believe how much we cover in one class!
This video of Traci & Gus should offer valuable tips to fix a dog that is rude to people you meet. In 10 minutes, Gus totally turned around and was polite as Traci needs him to be.
