Stolen.......To my fellow trainers. My hat is off to you.....

Here's a glimpse of our life in reality. We have a passion, usually starts almost at birth, we go after it.
We work for free to learn. Muck stalls, buck hay, build fence, drag arenas, wash horses, sweep floors and a thousand other tasks just in hopes of learning something about these amazing animals.
Endless and often thankless hours. To get lucky enough to get on some nasty suckers no one wants to ride. But you get on...maybe scared, maybe unsure, but you'd crawl in the middle of a red eyed lion just to prove to yourself that you can. You ride anything they run at you....
Then one day, usually years later, you strike out on your own. You become a trainer..But you still crawl on the bad ones and make the best you can of them. You still get je**ed around trying to lead a knothead to the barn, still get rope burns, get kicked and pawed and bit. Have runaways, broncs, flippers and ones that smash your legs into the fence. Often times risk your life...
Even easy day are abusive to your body. You are stiff and sore so often you don't even notice anymore. You ride, drive, learn, teach and soul search endless hours...
What little money you actually make you buy or replace gear, struggle to get a truck and trailer, find a place to train out of...yeah it's a real cakewalk.
Through endless hours of learning, failing, trying harder, wanting to quit, digging deeper, you learn to train well and maybe show well...
You start winning, winning starts to become habit...surely you have made it...nope.
You still ain't above mucking stalls or dragging the arena...you basically do what you did in the beginning..you just get paid a little more and have a different title...
After all of this, day and night, you still work crazy odd hours and hunger to get better..If we took a pencil to what we earned per hour we'd go hang ourselves...
Then...the clients. Some good, some bad, some amazing and some absolutely awful..
They go from singing your praises to saying what a poor job you did, how they expected so much more but fail to see what you had to go through to get their less than stellar, pissy, less than world class bred horse to the point that they can ride it, maybe even show it.
Then they decide to ride with another trainer down the road and suddenly they forget how overjoyed they were with all you had accomplished on their baby.
I know you know this...horses aren't the tough part of this business, people are.
Hang in there fellow fools for horse. You are not alone...
Remember why you started my friends...you started because of the love....hang in there, don't lose your passion, your heart and soul over people...keep doing it for the horse.

FOR YOUR HORSES SAKE

When you walk into the stable
Don’t try to show who’s boss
Your horse won’t understand you
And he’ll be at a loss
Instead, just go and rub his head
Be kind, and furthermore
When you walk into the stable
Leave your ego at the door.

When you walk into the paddock
You must go to your horse
Don’t think that he should come to you
Don’t chase or yell or force
Just take some feed to catch him
In this there’s no debate
When you walk into the paddock
Leave your ego at the gate

Every time you ride your horse
Think before you ask
Make it easy, always question
If he’s ready for the task
And when you have a problem
Don’t throw your weight around
Every time you ride your horse
Leave your ego on the ground

Every time you’re with your horse
Show him kindness first
Be nice and friendly always
And never think the worst
It’s sometimes not that easy
To know what’s in his mind
But every time you’re with your horse
Leave your ego far behind

Someone you know is preparing
for their first Christmas without
their husband, wife, mother
father, brother, sister, daughter
or son. Others are preparing for
their last. Regardless of the
specifics, remember that this
season of joy is often times a
season of sorrow for many. Be
kind, be generous, give love, give
help; if nothing else, just don't
give people a hard time.

Dear girl,

The orange peel theory

Will the man you want to spend the rest of your life with, peel your oranges?

It's a theory based around your partners willingness to serve you out of pure love.

Things you are fully capable of doing yourself, but they do for you out of kindness, and intimacy.

Like peeling your orange for you

And as silly as it sounds, having lived both sides of the orange theory will open your eyes so much, allowing you to appreciate having a partner who actually loves you..... an orange peel partner

For the first time in my life I don't get my own doors, or order my own food at a restaurant. He knows how I like my coffee, and always rinses the dishes clean before putting them in the sink. He knows my favorite gas station snack and didn't hesitate to ask my favorite flavor of the enegery drinks I drink way too many of. And he has never once missed an opportunity to make my life easier or to make me feel loved.

That's because, he will peel my orange.
Even though I could do it myself.....

Find a man who will peel your orange sweet girl

I been asked as a trainer why is Groundwork and desensitizing. as important in a horses life. because it helps establish trust, respect, and communication between you and your horse, It sets the foundation for all future training and helps your horse understand and respond to your cues. Plus, it helps keep both of you safe during riding and handling.
After groundwork, you can start introducing basic commands and cues to your horse, such as leading, stopping, and turning. This helps them understand and respond to your signals.
After establishing basic commands, you can gradually introduce more advanced training exercises based on your horse's abilities and goals. This could include lunging, desensitization, and introducing obstacles. Remember to always be patient and consistent in your training!

Now to desensitizing.
We desensitize horses to help them become more relaxed and confident in various situations, By exposing them gradually to different sights, sounds, and sensations, we teach them not to overreact or become fearful. This helps create a safer and more enjoyable experience for both horse and rider. After desensitizing your horse, you can continue to build their confidence by introducing them to new environments, objects, and obstacles. This can include trail rides, obstacle courses, or even participating in horse shows. The goal is to expose them to a variety of stimuli and situations, helping them become a well-rounded and adaptable partner. Keep up the great work!

THE DREAM THAT MANY WILL NOT UNDERSTAND:
My horse is my personal dream.
One day when I am very old and when I can not walk anymore, it will be in my heart as a trophy of my memories.
I met people who taught me something and have the same spirit and I met others that I'm glad I forgot.
I got wet,
I felt cold,
And I felt warm,
I was afraid,
I fell,
And I stood up,
I even hurt myself, I have been broken,
But also, I laughed out loud inside .
I spoke a thousand times with myself.
I sang and shouted with joy like a madman,
And yes ... sometimes I cried.
I have seen wonderful places and lived unforgettable experiences.
I often made unplanned jumps that even Oliver Skeete would be proud of; other times I made jumps full of terror.
I stopped a thousand times to see a landscape.
I spoke with perfect strangers, and I forgot people I see every day.
I went out with my demons inside and returned home with a feeling of absolute peace in my heart.
I always thought how dangerous it is, knowing that the meaning of courage is to advance even feeling fear.
Every time I go up to my horse I think about how wonderful she is.
I stopped talking about it to those who do not understand, and I learned to communicate with other riders.
I have met some amazing people I now call friends because of my horse.
I spent money that I did not have, giving up many things, but all these things are not worth even one special moment with my horse.
He is not a means of transport or a piece of iron with wheels, it is the lost part of my soul and my spirit.
And when someone says to me: "You have to sell the horse and you have to be a more sensible", ... I do not answer. I just swing my head and smile,
A horse..... only the person who loves them understands it.
May God bless my friends and all their horses...
And the adventure continues. .

I want to break down the finances of a Horse trainer.
Let's say they charge $1000 a month. They ride 5-6 days a week. After cleaning stalls feeding graining saddling washing watering grooming arenas etc Hauling hay grain fixing tack Watters fences and whatever your horse breaks it requires 2-2.5 hours a day a horse. That's before the overhead of hay feed grain training facility trucks tractors drags etc. So that works out to approximately 16.5 hours a week x4 is 66 hours a month $1000÷66 = 15.15 an hour not counting overhead which consumes approximately 1/3 if you are cheap. So yup a trainer charging $1000 a month makes approximately $10.00 an hour with at least tens of thousands invested. They would be much better off flipping burgers. We don't do it for the money but for the love of the horses.

To the trainers who are trying their best—remember:

Not every horse will leave your facility in a place where you feel 100% confident in where they are at with their training.

Not every horse will “make it” at the level your customer expects.

Not every customer will be able to continue a horse’s training the way that you would have.

Not every customer will take the time to learn how to use their horse to its full potential.

Not every customer will give you the opportunity to spend the time you need to make a horse truly great.

Not everyone will appreciate your approach, or understand your training philosophy.

But, also remember that…

There will be plenty of great customers who appreciate your perspective and program.

There will be many wonderful people with talented horses that will cross your path.

There will someday be an opportunity to ride that once-in-a-lifetime horse that you will get to put your mark on.

There will be ample opportunities to educate and empower your customers to reach their full potential with their horses.

There will be plenty of happy people who give you a call to tell you about all the success they are having with their horses.

There will be endless opportunities to feel grateful and blessed about the people and horses you get to work with everyday.

The strongest asset you can have as a horse trainer is perspective. Focus on the good, and the good gets better.
