Thinking about leaving your dogs outside in the biting cold ?
If you do, you could risk having them seized by animal control officers. Or worse – you could be charged with a crime.
Leaving pets outdoors without proper shelter to protect them is a crime in Virginia. Depending on the circumstances, violators could be charged with animal cruelty or failing to perform the duties of ownership.
It’s not illegal for them to be outside, but that’s only if they have appropriate shelter for the conditions outside. If the health, safety or welfare of the animal is in danger, then authorities have the right to take them.

During this or any cold weather, a dog with no shelter can easily freeze to death. Depriving an animal of necessary shelter.... That is cruelty. Any dog should be seized under those conditions.

We hope everyone will check on and take care of their friends, family members, and neighbors during this upcoming severe weather, and they shouldn’t forget about their furry friends. If you see a pet left out in freezing weather, report them to law enforcement or animal control.

Hey! Come check out the Halifax Dog Squad booth at the KRUSH race tomorrow, Saturday 11/8.
We'll be set up with three gift baskets worth $50-$100 each. You can get gift certificates from Mike's Pizza and Mi Caretta's, plus a tablecloth, sheets, and towels from Garnier-Thiebaut. Tickets are 2 for $5 or an arm's length for $20.
We'll draw the winners before the green flag drops.

Duchess went Dalmatian Rescue of Southwest Virginia today .. one step closer to her forever home. She was a great travel buddy to Rocky Mount VA with volunteer Kim.

Poppi found himself in sad situation. His owner/caregiver had just passed away. Even though his owner thought that the rest of Poppi's days would be comfortable and fine, things don't unfortunately always work the way we want.
This situation found this grumpy little man needing a new home.
A Forever Home Rescue stepped up for Poppi and his medicated food.
Thanks Kathy for stepping up to foster and transport this little guy!
