Niko is up for adoption! I have some information about her below. Please read fully before contacting me, thank you! Niko is an eight month old female Akita who was returned to me due to her owner unexpectedly passing away. She was clearly very well taken care of and well loved. She's a very sweet and affectionate girl with excellent house manners. She knows sit and shake, and takes treats politely. She is fully potty trained and will let you know when she needs to out. She walks well on a leash, has good recall in a fenced yard, and does excellent on a long line as well. She is very good with my 2yr old toddler, doesn't steal his snacks or toys, is calm with him and doesn't jump up. Although she's tall and will be big, she's careful not to knock into him and I believe she would do well in a home with kids. She would do best as an only dog, or possibly with a large, calm, neutered male. No small dogs or other females. She is currently intact and will need to be spayed. She and my other females are all currently in heat (kept separate). Once her heat is over I will introduce her to my male Akita and I will be able to assess better how she does with him. She does have some resource guarding around food with other dogs, however, she has shown no issues with people (both adults and toddler). She will follow you around and does show some anxiety when I leave the house, some of that is from transitioning to a new place and it takes time for a any dog to settle fully. She prefers to be in the same room as you and will lay calmly nearby. She would do best in a home where she she would not be left alone often. She is not crate trained, and I would reccomend positive passive crate training with her as I do with all dogs. Akitas get very large and if they needed to be crated in an emergency it's safest for them to be comfortable in one.
