Today was an amazing day at the St. Charles Farmers' Market! We had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people, but one encounter truly stood out. A lovely young lady named Chloe stopped by The Canine Coach booth and gifted us a beautiful sketch of my dog, Roxie! 🎨🐾

Why Does My Dog Dig in the Yard? 🐾🌿

Does your dog love to dig up your yard or garden? 🐕🌱 It’s a common behavior that many dog owners encounter. But why do they do it? Here are a few reasons why your dog might dig, along with breeds commonly associated with each reason:

1. **Instinct:** Some breeds have a natural instinct to dig, especially those used for hunting or burrowing. For example, Jack Russell Terriers and Dachshunds were bred to dig out game, so it’s in their nature!

2. **Boredom:** Dogs that need more mental and physical stimulation might dig out of boredom. Breeds like the Border Collie and German Shepherd are highly active and intelligent, so they need plenty of exercise and enrichment.

3. **Comfort:** Some dogs dig to create a cozy spot to rest or hide from the elements. Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes often dig to make a comfortable resting place in their outdoor environment.

These intelligent, energetic dogs are also known for their cat-like grooming habits and keen hunting instincts. Originally from Central Africa, Basenjis were used to flush game into nets and control rodent populations.

🌟 Meet Maxie, our charming 8-year-old star student! 🐾

Maxie is currently rocking our Basic Obedience WNL program with grace and enthusiasm. Despite her age, she's proving that you can teach an old dog new tricks! 🎉

Maxie has been working hard to overcome mild resource guarding behaviors, especially around food and when other dogs are near her beloved human. We believe her progress is rooted in building confidence and easing mild anxiety.

As we enter our 4th week of training, Maxie is impressing us all. Check out the video to see her follow commands flawlessly, no corrections or treats needed! 📹🐶

Next up, Maxie will be starting lessons with her owner in the coming weeks to further boost her skills.
