Happy 3rd Birthday, Otis!! Otis has a lot to celebrate this birthday. He dislocated his hip after slipping into a ditch 2 weeks ago. Thanks to a very collaborative veterinary experience, dedicated owners, (and some luck!) Otis’ hip is back in and 🤞staying in (without surgery!). Many thanks to Alpine Vet Hospital for initially seeing him on emergency, Advanced Veterinary Surgery in Durango, and Canine Colorado Orthopedics in Colorado Springs for their help, guidance, and expertise. Expert advice for cat owners as avian influenza surges:

To prevent H5N1 avian influenza from infecting pet cats, experts recommend that cats be kept indoors, their vaccinations should be up to date, and they should not be fed raw meat, poultry or dairy products. Cats exhibiting severe respiratory distress, low appetite, fever, eye or nasal discharge, or neurological problems such as tremors and seizures should be seen by a veterinarian immediately, says veterinarian Susan Nelson, a clinical professor at Kansas State University.

Visiting South Fork and have bags of trash you need to get rid of? We can help you out. Rainbow’s trash compactor is currently down and is not expected to be working until the end of Feb. We will accept trash for $5 a bag (standard tall trash bag size) CASH donation to our pet rescue fund. Trash accepted Monday thru Thursday 9am to 5 pm at South Fork Vet Clinic, 138 Ponderosa Drive. We will accept trash until our bins are full. Come to the front desk when you arrive. 🙂🐾

Some tips to reduce your cat's risk of contracting highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). Yes, unfortunately cats (and dogs, but less common) can get avian influenza.

The FDA is providing pet owners and animal caretakers with information about ways to reduce the risk to their animals of contracting HPAI (H5N1).
