Root Chakra

At its most basic level, the root chakra is concerned with needs. It governs one's senses of stability, safety, strength, and commitment and is responsible for self-preservation and feeling grounded.

Second Chakra or Sacral Chakra

The Heart Chakra

The heart chakra, or anahata chakra in Sanskrit, is located at the center of the spine at heart level. Anahata roughly translates to, “unhurt.” Accordingly, the heart chakra acts as the individual's center of compassion, empathy, love, and forgiveness.

Throat Chakra

Practitioners say the throat chakra is the center of communication, emotion, and creativity. It affects your ability to be honest and express your thoughts. When your throat chakra is imbalanced or blocked, it can be difficult for energy to flow in the area.

Third Eye Chakra

The third eye chakra is said to connect people to their intuition, give them the ability to communicate with the world, or help them receive messages from the past and the future.

Crown Chakra or 7th Chakra

The crown or the seventh chakra is located at the top of the head. Just as the Root or First Chakra connects us to the Mother Earth, the Crown Chakra is our connection to the Universe. In fact, the Seventh Chakra disperses the Universal energy or life force into the six other chakras located below it. In Sanskrit, the Crown Chakra is termed as the Sahasrara (the ‘thousand fold’ Chakra), since it is pictured as a lotus having thousand white petals.
