Head over to the Lodge on Thursday, November 14th for Give Back Day.

They will be graciously donating a percentage of their sales for that day to Al-Van Humane Society ❤❤❤

The annual Cookie Caper is taking place on Saturday, November 23rd at during their Holiday Bazaar and we need bakers!

Please drop off your cookie donations on Friday, November 23rd, at our Adoption Center - 075911 Blue star Highway in South Haven. All proceeds benefit the animals at Al-Van Humane Society.

Meet Norma Jean our this week!

She is a sweet and energetic girl who was transferred to us from Van Buren County Animal Control. She is looking for a home ready to take on her big puppy energy and patiently work with her through all the training she needs. She is selective when it comes to other dog friends, but of course is open to introductions prior to being adopted.

Norma Jean is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative.
She weighs 43 lbs and is a little over a year old.

This cat was brought in. He is an unneutered male, no chip. He was found on 73 1/2 St South Haven. He is very clean and soft, and doesn't appear to be an outdoor kitty. If you recognize him, please message us or call us at (269) 639-2242.

We have some very exciting news to share!
You may have seen our post last week about the small white dog who was picked up here in South Haven and brought to a shelter in Wisconsin. The dog's owner saw our post and contacted Washington County Humane Society, but was not sure when they would be able to make the unexpected trip to Wisconsin.

Yesterday 2 amazing volunteers, one from Washington County Humane Society and one from Al-Van Humane Society (both pictured below).
Each drove about 2 hours to meet outside of Chicago, where they handed off the dog.

Today, Riley is back home with his owners! We can not thank our new friends at Washington County Humane Society enough for everything they have done for little Riley. Yay for happy endings!

Meet Sly our . This dapper gentleman is estimated to be about 6 years old. He was brought to us by a kind soul who said that Sly used to belong to his neighbor's but was left behind when they moved out. The home has been condemned and is slated for demolition.

Sly is an older gentleman and is very laid back, he loves his cat naps. He would probably do well with an older person in a home with low level activity.

Sly has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and is FIV & FELV negative.

PETS WILL NEED TO BE DROPPED OFF AT 8AM ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30TH IN A CLEAN CARRIER. IF YOUR ANIMAL ARRIVES IN A DIRTY CARRIER YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE!

A 10+yr neutered male possibly Bichon mix was found in South Haven near M-140 and Bluestar Highway on 10/12/24. The dog was found by someone visiting South Haven who took the dog home with them to Wisconsin and brought him to Washington County Humane Society. The dog is microchipped but it is not registered. He was wearing a collar when found. Washington County Humane Society is looking for any information regarding this dog. If you recognize him, please contact them at (262) 677-4388.

Meet Snow White, our this week.

Snow White is a sweet, and obviously gorgeous girl who was transferred to us from Van Buren County Animal Control. She is quite the diva and thrives on attention. She is very friendly, energetic and playful. She looks to be a shepherd mix of some kind, but we can't say for certain. She says she is open to meeting resident dogs, cats and kids. She would probably do well in just about any home willing to invest the time and energy toward her continued training and enrichment.

T-Rex update! His new wheels arrived, and we did a very brief introduction today; loosely attached the straps so he could just feel it and see what it was about. He wasn’t so sure this time, but we’ll give him time to adjust and get in some practice! He’s definitely ready to be on the move. Other great news…we’ve actually SEEN him use the litter box now, both poop and pee, and he’s doing great! He manages to get in and out without making a mess. It’s like being excited about your toddler using the potty hahaha. He continues to be a happy, snuggly boy, and flops over on his back for belly rubs whenever he sees someone. He’s also figured out that he can meow quite excitedly when he sees his wet food coming. Thank you to everyone for the continued support for both T-Rex and our emergency medical fund ❤️

T-Rex says, “Mmmm heck yeah snacks!” We don’t spoil our kids at ALL 🤭🤭😁

Another thank you to everyone who came out to the Bark-B-Que last night to support the shelter! Our board members did the 50/50 drawing at 8pm, and ticket 402 was the winner!! The winner was contacted and they generously donated their winnings of $151 back to Al-Van ❤️

Volume up for that good kitty purr ASMR 😻😻 Let’s talk about Mitzy. She came to us as a kitten of approximately 3 months old, and she was full of botflies. She is coming up on her TWO YEAR anniversary at Al-Van, and has been in foster with one of our amazing cat volunteers since January. Since she’s a little shy and not as outgoing as some of the other cats, she has always been overlooked. But just LOOK at how this sweet baby loves the cuddles when she’s in a place she’s comfortable! This girl needs a home of her own. She gets along with other cats, but she is happiest being the only one getting your attention. If you’d like to give Mitzy a chance at having her very own forever home for the first time in her life, please go to al-van.org/adopt to fill out an application.
