Gunner von Gusten is a delightful 12-month-old Shepherd/Husky mix. Gunner is a sweet, affectionate, happy and goofy ‘bro' of a dog. Gunner’s your buddy who’s up for pretty much anything – walk? Cool. Hike? Let’s go! Gunner had a lot of professional training and it shows. His good cheer is contagious, so much so, that he even makes the best of being in a kennel. He would love a home where he has a chance to expend some energy and show off what he knows. As long as there are no small dogs, cats or young children in his new family, he will make an amazing addition to any home. Gunner was rescued from the Lancaster animal shelter.

Buster von Brussow is a very handsome 5–6 -year-old long-haired German Shepherd. He is truly magnificent. All eyes are on him as he seems to prance when he comes out for a walk. He takes treats gently, loves affection and is such a sweet soul. He seems to be housebroken and waits for hours to get his turn for a potty walk. Buster is good on a leash, knows how to heel and listens to directions well. Unfortunately, he’s not a fan of cats though. Buster should be at the top of the list for an owner who has been looking for a good-looking guy, who asks that no other dogs reside in his future home. He was abandoned in the desert and the Good Sam who found him begged us to get Buster out of the animal shelter after his hold-time, before it was too late! Could you give him the ultimate chance of a loving forever home? Buster was rescued from the Hesperia animal shelter.

Mulan von Mayen is a beautiful, 2-3 -year-old German Shepherd-mix who has mastered her leash training by walking in a heel position and responding to corrections. This sweet girl meets other people and dogs with a smile on her snout. Treat-motivated and a people-pleaser, she is easily motivated to become the head of her class. With a mid-energy level, she actively greets other dogs entering our play yard yet is selective in her choice of a playmate but, once she finds her match, she becomes a fun-loving, goofy girl. Mulan is looking for a home that will continue her training towards becoming the perfect princess that lies within. (No cats please.) Mulan was rescued from the Palmdale animal shelter.

Shadow von Athena is a gorgeous 3-year-old German Shepherd-mix. This fluffy-coated boy is a bit shy at first meeting, but we find that given a treat or two, he morphs into your new best friend. He thrives on attention, is housebroken, knows a few basic commands and is easily trained. This handsome guy wags his tail enthusiastically when he enters our play yard to socialize with other canines, and he demonstrates a gentle play style. Medium-energy Shadow walks well on leash, even when he is part of a pack of 6 other dogs! Shadow is looking for a home with another dog. (No cats please.)

Meet the November 15th Dog of the Day in the 2024 Westside calendar - Leo.

Happy 4th Birthday, Leo!!

Leo was added to my family in June of 2022, when his family was rehoming him on Facebook. He tugged at my heartstrings because he is blind, and I am legally blind. The day his family dropped him off, he ran around my yard with no fear, fell in the pool, and continued running around after I helped him out. If you saw him in my yard, you would never know he is blind. He runs at full speed, knowing how to get close to the pool without falling in. On the rare occasions he cuts a corner too close and falls in, he knows exactly where to go to get out. He is the only one of my 5 German Shepherds that jumps in the pool and swims.

Leo's favorite toy is Knotty Bird, from Costco. When they got them back in the store after a year, I bought him 12, so that he would not run out. He loves running around the yard, playing with Sadie and playing on the Baja shelf of the pool. Even though he can't see, he is full of confidence on walks and in new places, venturing at the front of the leash. Leo goes to group training with the Grand Canyon German Shepherd Club. He is my fastest with recall, running full blast to me.
Leo is loved by Suzanne.

Christy von Clausen is a stunning 18-month-old German Shepherd. A sweet and loving girl, she's searching for an active home. She begins her walks excitedly but listens to her handler. She enjoys meeting new canine friends along the way, is eager to learn and is responsive to her person. In her playgroups, she’s excited to play and gravitates toward higher energy pups for fun. She initiates play and makes sure to greet everyone, but cats are not her thing. Christy’s looking for a new start in life. Christy was rescued by Good Samaritan from a bad home.

Oso von Olching is a delightful 2-year-old Shepherd-mix. Oso is a handsome boy who is smaller in size and looks a bit like a fox. He has a perky and lively demeanor and is great with other dogs, even play-bowing and inviting them to run around the yard. When it comes to people, he can come across as shy at first but give him a treat and he will immediately “sit” and do what you say – he is so smart! He may be around 2 years old, but he is still a puppy at heart. He is looking for an experienced adult owner to remind this energetic boy when it is time to play and when it is time to act his age. With structure and guidance, he has already improved walking on leash and calmly hanging out to watch what everyone is doing. This boy wants a life of running or playing fetch with the right family who can keep up with his training. (No cats please.) Oso is ready to run with you! Oso was a surrender to the rescue by his owner for having too many animals.

Male Foster Dog of the Day - Zach von Zenting

I’m doing so great at casa de Arden. As you can see, I love my pretty Kodi-girl. We cuddle and play all day. I love my daily walks and I’m getting stronger every day.
I recently learned how to use the doggie door! Foster-momma did the happy dance. I’m afraid of stairs, but we are working on that. I’m totally house-trained and crate-trained. I’m a bit talkative and love to cuddle my humans. My stitches are coming out soon and then I can run around sans my trusty t-shirt. Ok, Time for a snooze! Have a good day! Wuvya!❤️

Zach von Zenting (on the right) is a beautiful and very sweet 11-month-old Shepherd-mix. Peeps, I wanted to tell all of you who are following my journey to a forever home that I had a great first night in my foster home! My foster sis and bro welcomed me very gently because I am still recovering from my surgery (doing excellently, btw). I am potty-trained and sleep through the night like a champ in my cozy crate. My foster mom says I'm a total sweetheart and my foster pop can’t stop kissing me. I give lots of kisses too. I discovered I can hop on the couch, no problem, and that’s where I found some fresh laundry to snuggle up to. Today we found out that I love to play and I run fast, like a gazelle! I don’t miss my leg at all and don’t need any special treatment. Thank you, Westside, for rescuing me from the Inland Valley animal shelter. ❤️

Roxanne von Rohl is a beautiful 2-year-old German Shepherd-mix. Roxanne is earnestly looking for an adult home to call her own. A bit shy upon first meeting you, she needs a little time to adjust and get to know you. Once she does, she's just the sweetest girl (a favorite of some of our staff), and loves the attention she can win. Coming in at a medium-energy level, she seems to be house-trained, is obedient and eager to please her person. She already knows a list of commands and is a gentle treat-taker. On her walks, she shows good leash manners and likes to sniff and explore the outside world. She does well in her playgroups and greets other dogs nicely and is currently sharing her run with another dog. Roxanne has also tested well with small dogs but is a NO for kitty pals. Roxanne was rescued from the Downey animal shelter.

Banjo (aka Bondi) von Berkoth is an adorable, smaller sized (37 lbs.) 3-year-old mix of cuteness. As a proud member of the herding/cattle dog family, he’s seeking an owner who is familiar with the associated behavior traits. He'll do best in an adult home without a lot of visitors. Banjo is a calm guy with a cute prance to his gait. He’ll happily climb into your lap to earn some petting. With a list of commands, he’s already mastered, he is housetrained, crate-trained and has had obedience and leash training, too. A good boy in the car, inside the house and the yard, Banjo likes to spend his time indoors. Friendly with other calm dogs, in his playgroups he explores the yard and mingles with his pals. Banjo was rescued from the Kern County animal shelter.

Meet the November 14th Dogs of the Day in the 2024 Westside calendar - Rohan and Roxie.

Rohan, on the left, and Roxie, on the right, were bonded as puppies. We brought both home at 8 weeks. Roxie was incredibly bonded to my daughter, who went on to compete with her in high-level tracking, and my Rohan and I competed as well, and we enjoyed that time together so much.

They both grew into beautiful dogs, and were so loyal and true to us, but their bond to each other always remained strong. Roxie always looked up to her big brother and he was always ever so sweet and patient with her. They will always be with us, but the time with them will forever be missed.
So loved and missed by the Westerhoff family.

Riley von Romrod is a stunning 6-year-old German Shepherd who doesn’t miss a thing. Extremely intelligent, she reads her handler's body language to the tee and loves to be challenged. Give her the command “Where is Mommy” or where is “Daddy” and she’ll track her person down room by room until she finds you. Loyal and affectionate with her beloved humans, she is not for the rookie owner but for a seasoned Shepherd person - one who understands the discernment, loyalty, smarts and protective instincts of the breed. She walks great on leash, alert and curious about everything. Riley is indifferent towards other dogs. She doesn’t bark at them or want to interact, and would be fine as an only dog or live with a submissive male. She will tolerate confident cats who aren’t afraid of her. She is an extremely sweet dog towards her owners, cuddling and affectionate with getting scratches and rolling over for belly rubs. She sometimes forgets she’s a large German Shepherd and will try to sit in your lap. She knows basic commands and can learn new tricks through treat-motivated play. She also understands some hand commands without using words. She loves obstacle courses or going for hikes. She is most comfortable with adult women and one alpha man. She will most likely not want to be pet by any other men, only other women with the proper introduction. Riley needs to be in a child free home and prefers adults or teenagers. Riley was rescued from CCSPCA animal shelter.

Franz von Freren is a stunning 3-year-old long-haired German Shepherd whom you just want to hug (once you get to know him). At 70 pounds and possibly housebroken, Franz will lean against you for attention -- he accepts anything from light pets to belly rubs. Not only does he know his basic commands, but he walks well on leash alone or with other dogs, staying close to you and only stopping to track an ant dashing for its life. Play time in our yard is one of Franz' favorites activities, romping with his furry friends and checking out the nooks and crannies. This boy is so special -- and have you heard that coated Shepherds shed less than short-haired Shepherds? (No cats for this boy.) Franz was rescued from the Hesperia animal shelter.

A medium-energy beauty of 60 pounds, she is loving and affectionate with her handlers and can enjoy just sitting next to you while laying her head on your foot. When you move into another room, Lily devotedly follows, alert for any way she can please you. House-trained and knowing basic commands, she is an athletic girl who likes to play ball so much that she will jump into the water to retrieve one; hiking and jogging are on her hobbies' list as well. Crate and leash-trained, she walks comfortably in a heel position and takes treats gently. In our canine playgroups, Lily greets incoming dogs and socially accepts them, but she definitely prefers hanging out with her people or doing her own thing. This sweet Shepherd dreams of living in an adult, active home with you as her best friend. (No cats, please). Lily was surrender to the rescue - found in Santa Barbara.

Chester von Coswig is a stunning 78 lbs,. 18-month-old black-and-red German Shepherd. This handsome, sturdy-built boy is not just another pretty face; he's eager to learn and show off his smarts! Chester is the perfect companion for an active individual or a family that loves outdoor adventures. He's housebroken and already mastering basic commands such as "sit" and "down," and will even offer a paw to make sure you're impressed. He's very treat-motivated but makes sure to take treats gently, showcasing his eagerness to please. With an experienced handler, he will walk nicely on a leash, and then can walk politely with other dogs. In off-leash playgroups, he meets other bigger dogs well (he's a no for small dogs). He can at times be a delightful goofball, even inviting dogs to play, but he won't fail to take breaks to ask for love and attention from his human friends. If you're looking for a loyal companion who would love to learn and grow with you, Chester is your boy! Come meet this incredible pup! MAMA MOONSHINE AND HER BABIES MADE IT OUT ALIVE!!!

MAMA MOONSHINE AND HER BABIES MADE IT OUT ALIVE!!! The animal shelter was in chaos as they were making room for 100 new dogs coming in from a hoarding situation. Mama Moonshine was already in trouble because she had been protective of her newborn puppies when she had been on the street. At the shelter we were not allowed to meet her, even see her or touch her. We could only provide a solid plastic crate and they would put her in it and move her to our SUV with her puppies! As we suspected, Mama Moonshine is a love; the ordeal was like they were bringing out Hannibal Lecter! Let’s celebrate the first day of the rest of her life and her adorable puppies! Dex Update #1

DEX UPDATE! Remember scared 4-month-old Dex? Thanks to patient and nurturing fosters, he is learning that life isn't so scary! Look at him run to his foster-mom when she calls to him!
