Pets can’t advocate for their needs like us humans can, and many owners fail to recognize signs of osteoarthritis (OA), often chalking it up to pets “slowing down with age.” OA is common in dogs and cats ages six and up, so to help champion their health, we’re sharing the key signs of this degenerative joint disease so that you know when it’s time to seek veterinary support. If your pet is . . .
• Struggling to climb up or down stairs
• Having trouble jumping up or down
• Slow to rise from a resting position
• Lagging behind on walks or during play

With the right pain management, your pet can get back to being themselves again! To learn more about OA and treatment options, visit: https://www.thrivepetcare.com/be-their-champion

‼️Xylitol can be found in a lot of products and it's now being labeled as Birch Sugar because it's extracted from Birch bark. It's toxic to dogs, cats and ferrets. Check your peanut butter ingredients before you give your animals any and if they get into something they shouldn't have, read the ingredients to know if you should get them to the vet right away!

Kidney (or renal) disease is very common in dogs and cats, and it may be reversible or permanent based on underlying causes. The disease could be a result of age-related changes to the kidneys, acute injury or toxin ingestion, congenital defects present from birth, or in rare cases, a side effect of some medications. To prevent kidney disease or slow its progression, it's vital to stay regular with wellness visits so that together, we can monitor renal levels with blood work and urinalysis and catch any changes ASAP.

Staying active is essential to both the physical and mental well-being of your dog. As a busy pet owner, ensuring your companion is getting enough exercise can sometimes fall to the wayside, but we’re here to offer some ideas on how to implement regular activity into their life – and yours! 🏃
Age, breed, size, and additional health considerations will all influence how much exercise your dog should be receiving each day. Also important to consider are weather conditions. If it’s too hot or cold out for you, it’s likely the case for them, as well, in which case outdoor time should be limited. If you are ever unsure about your pet’s exercise needs, we’re more than happy to provide honest, professional advice during your next visit.

Aldie Veterinary Hospital is a full-service companion animal hospital providing a broad spectrum of treatments and care. With state-of the-art equipment and highly-trained veterinarians and staff, we are unique in how we care for your pet. Modern, yet compassionate, our multifaceted approach incorporates quality medicine in an environment which centers around your pet.
Quality medicine begins with replacing traditional, reactive medicine with progressive, preventative medicine. Not only increasing your pet’s current quality of life, this method has been proven to help prevent disease and significant health problems, especially in the golden years.
Located in South Riding, Aldie Vet has been caring for pets since 1999. As one of the founding partners in the Dulles South corridor, we have enjoyed being a part of a thriving community with pet-friendly amenities such as foot and bike paths and dog parks. Did you know there is a dog park located on our street? Check it out before or after one of your appointments! Another benefit of being a neighborhood-hometown vet, is participating in community events which foster human-animal bonds.
We are honored to serve the many communities in and around South Riding, Stone Ridge, Chantilly, Aldie, Brambleton, Haymarket and Ashburn.
Aldie Vet is located inside the Dulles South Veterinary Center (DSVC), a premier medical, surgical, and emergency veterinary center dedicated to animal health. The design and development of this facility is a result of Dr. Drew Luce focusing his efforts on building a veterinary hospital amongst neighbors and friends that make this area of Northern Virginia the best. DSVC is a pet centered facility that is open 24 hours a day. Exceptional quality of veterinary medicine is achieved by combining the latest technology and equipment available with friendly, knowledgeable and experienced staff, all in an environment that supports the hometown values of a local business.
DSVC is also home to Dulles South Animal Emergency and Referral Hospital. Your pet will receive the continuity of care that can only be achieved through a center that offers general, advanced, and emergency veterinary medicine in one location. Whether your pet has a scheduled appointment or unscheduled emergency, Dulles South Veterinary Center has the capability to provide the services your pet needs.
