Today is Give To The Max Day, our first time in about 15 years not participating, but not by our choice. You see we’re having issues with our nonprofit status at the IRS and again not by our choice. For 21 years we’ve been a nonprofit through my hardworking efforts and in doing so have followed all regulations and procedures to keep our status. However even though we have followed the rules and laws this passed year seems to have placed us within the Twilight Zone and I’m seriously waiting for Rod Serling to pop out and bring us back to reality. Sadly a part of me simply doesn’t care anymore about this nonprofit status for it hasn’t really benefited us in terms of greatness. I see all of these “indy” people with their pleas for help who are not nonprofit getting more donations then some legal nonprofits without accountability to where those funds go? Trust me, I’ve seen these people drum up funds to replace carpet in their homes and yet we can’t meet our goal of getting donations to help us cover rent!
We are a very small nonprofit organization, always have been and always will. Over my 28 years of animal rescue I’ve seen much larger nonprofit rescues implode within and loose their focus on the greater good and that will never happen to us.
Yes I’ve grappled with the “why’s” as to how is this happening us, it leads to this, that and the next thing scenarios. Could it be connected to all we’ve had to deal with post Covid? Could it be related to the thieves who tried opening accounts in our rescues name? Could it be simply that the IRS doesn’t like or want small nonprofits like us around anymore? We’re so heartbroken over this and trying to continue is a daily struggle, however don’t misunderstand our sadness as a weakness because aIll tell you our small quaint quirky rescue is nothing but strong! We have to be strong to care for all the animals you all have helped us rescue and save. That this hiccup of a situation will not deter us from our commitment to our animals! We will clear this matter up by years end and continue our journey of animal rescue. So despite this unfortunate event we still need your financial support to help us help them.
