Dr. Stella is passionate about fear free handling and mental health awareness in the veterinary field and has a strong background in emergency and specialty medicine to compliment her role as a general practitioner.🩺🐾

Dr. Hovda is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. Her special interests include mentoring, teaching locoregional anesthesia and developing pain management protocols. We couldn’t be happier to have Dr. Hovda on our team! 🌟

Meet one of our furry friends! Tootie recently came in through our Emergency service for lethargy, vomiting and decreased appetite. Diagnostics showed no evidence of foreign material in Tootie’s GI tract or other concerning issues, so she received some fluids and medications to help get her back on track. Tootie recently came back in for recheck bloodwork and was all toothy smile. We were so happy to see how much better she’s feeling! Yay Tootie!! ❤️

It's Spotlight Saturday! This week we are very happy to introduce you to one of the newest additions to our General Practice team - Dr. Kaitlyn Linnehan. After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Linnehan completed a small animal rotating internship here at VCA South Shore. Following her internship, she worked as a General Practice veterinarian at VCA Shaker Road Animal Hospital and VCA Westboro Animal Hospital for several years before rejoining our team this fall.

Fun fact: Dr. Linnehan's dogs' names are Guinness (Nessie) & Doolin- both named for her Irish ancestry. 🍀

Meet one of our superstars! Emma Grace is known and loved by multiple departments in our hospital. She has been under the care of Dr. Ficociello and the Internal Medicine team for an autoimmune disease, Dr. Berthiaume and the Neurology team for a seizure disorder and Dr. Walker and the General Practice team for her wellness care. To say that she has wonderfully dedicated and amazing parents would be a vast understatement! We feel grateful to be able to support this special girl and her family through all of her medical ups and downs. You have all of us in your corner Emma Grace! ❤

Dr. Gumash enjoys all aspects of medical oncology and has a special interest in the treatment of canine and feline lymphoma, a multimodal treatment approach, and palliative and hospice care. She feels privileged to have the opportunity to provide compassionate care to clients’ furry friends and to walk alongside them during their pet’s cancer journey.

Our Medical Oncology team is proud to be able to offer:

• Sentinel lymph node mapping
• Bone marrow aspiration/biopsy

Meet one of our superstars! Elliot was referred to our Surgical Oncology service from the wonderful team at Abington Animal Hospital for a mast cell tumor that needed removal. This adorable boy then transferred to our Medical Oncology team for chemotherapy. Elliot is truly a dream patient and could not be any sweeter! We are all rooting for you Elliot!! ❤️

Her clinical interests include the history of cancer biology, utilization of cancer genetic testing and its correlation with novel therapeutic treatment options, and palliative cancer care. Dr. Hicks’ main goals as a medical oncologist are to educate people about their pet’s cancer diagnosis, work alongside them to tailor a specific diagnostic and therapeutic treatment plan, and help them focus on their pet’s quality of life.
