7/9/2024 - GMHA trapped a sweet young tabby cat in our Have-A-Heart Trap (it was out to catch raccoons who have been pilfering our dumpsters). Right ear is clipped possibly noting that he/she (we think it's a female) has been spayed/neutered. Kitty is very healthy and currently being held at our office in S. Woodstock, VT. This weekend GMHA hosted the second in its 2024 Starter-Distance Rides. The format of lecture/discussion, demo and a marked ride had two equestrian legends (Robin Groves and Denny Emerson) in attendance providing expertise, guidance, advice and conversations. In addition, volunteer 100 milers and excellent seasoned equestrians themselves, shared their time and experience with all giving those in attendance a well-rounded approach to trail riding- both competitive and pleasure. The next Starter Ride is August 3rd. Followed by Distance Days at the end of the month! What are you waiting for? Come join in the fun! Can’t ride, volunteer. Many thanks to all who helped make this event a total success!

We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to preserve GMHA!

This will require the purchase of 35 acres adjacent to GMHA.

This land has been used by GMHA, with the permission from its owners, for many years for cross country courses, driving marathons and trail access. WE HAVE AN AGREEMENT TO PURCHASE IT NOW, and we need to raise a total of $2 million with $1 million due by October 2024!

The land purchase will include the hayfield and open land beyond and about 17 acres of woods on the hillside on the opposite side of Kedron Brook.

The land will be used for GMHA events AND flood mitigation plans, which will benefit not only GMHA, but the downstream neighbors in South Woodstock and beyond.

WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW!

· If we don't buy it-someone else will!
· It will increase the footprint of GMHA by over 60% and add potentially buildable land on the hillside out of the flood plain.
· It will protect forever the open lands we have already been using and which our programs have come to rely on.
· It will gain us access to the hayfield which will help protect the rest of the property from future flood events.

Attention GMHA Members…we goofed and erroneously had July 3rd listed as a Member’s Day in our Season Program, and on the website. July 3rd is not a Member Day, BUT please join us Members Weekend July 6 & 7 for schooling on the grounds. Trail Member Loops can be ridden from grounds or school dressage, jumpers, and XC!
