So proud of K9 Leara (Briska and Natsu) and her handler Branden Loock! This is so amazing!

Leara and I had the opportunity to compete in the Utah Peace Officer Association K9 trials this week in Salt Lake City. We competed in the explosive detection category and after a little hiccup in the building search, we took 3rd in the area search category!

It’s a lot different when you are under a ticking clock and limited on time.

K9 Leara did amazing and worked her tail off in each scenario and I couldn’t be more proud of her!!

Thank you to the UPOA and all the other handlers for the encouragement and Rob Barlow for your help with Leara over the past few months.
Congratulations to and K9 Ven for taking top explosive K9 again!

We’ll see you next year!!

Edelmann Kennels is permanently closed.
It’s been an amazing journey, and I’m incredibly proud of the dogs I’ve produced. But I am done.

Three of six pups from our second generation litter have had their OFA prelims done and all came back as non dysplastic. But this one has me on cloud nine!
I’m blessed to have this boys owner in my kennel family too. She loves him dearly, and puts that brain of his to use. Check out the letters after his name at 15 months old.
Two more of my second gen got their CGCs this week too, and 4 of the six are sailing along in their service dog training.
I’ve been beyond blessed with some of the greatest puppy owners!!

So the collage pics are top two today, bottom two the week they came. He is gaining slowly, which is good, but the muscle he is gaining is really nice. The ribs aren’t as prominent. His hips still are, but there is now more of a cushion than there was. There are indents on his head and tail that are much less sunken in too. Monday are blood work and X-rays to see what other damage is done. His skin is far less dry, and seems to be getting some peach fuzz in in some places, though the vet says there was too much damage for all the fur to grow back.
Also included some happy throw my ball pics from today.
I’ve decided because he’s going to be having a new life I wanted to give him a new name. I have kept with his litter theme name, which was the Twins. But his name is now Gemini. He fits those traits well I feel.

**Update post for those that saw I was getting back two of my pups.**

Apollo from my first litter, and Phoenix from my third litter. They went to a home that was, at the time, happy and stable. Over the last year or so it apparently turned sour and it’s clear from the boys appearance the family forgot they had dogs with their turmoil.
This is one of the worst things that can happen, but also the best when breeding. I have first right of refusal in my contracts, my pups always have a home with me no matter their age or situation.
I wish they had been returned a hell of a lot sooner; but they are home. They are now under vet care and what would have been a cheap vet bill, had it been seen to at the start, is now hundreds of dollars and a lot of suffering for Apollo. He had an allergy to something that wasn’t addressed and dug himself bloody and has now balded himself and created a very nasty infection. Both boys are emaciated to the point my vet almost cried. And I did all the way home with them. Both boys are easily 20lbs underweight.
The important thing is, they are safe. They are loved, and they are being treated.
And their base temperaments have not been even remotely harmed. They are both silly and happy and extremely affectionate with us. We bathed them right out of the car and pulled so much fur out of Phoenix it was insane, but he just let us scrub and brush and even use the force dryer on him with zero fear or annoyance.
Apollo will not be leaving me again. He is almost 7 and he’s had enough. He’s mine until he rests for good.
Phoenix needs groceries and more evaluation. But his fate is undecided; as I may also not be able to let him go now either.

I will be getting back two of my older males from the same home. They have been well loved, the home situation just had a very large change. Both are altered, and both have some training. One is 6 and Black and Tan. One is 4 and sable long coat.
They won’t be leaving until fully evaluated by my vet and myself. Pictures and more info to come.
