Irish Setter Rescue of North Texas

Irish Setter Rescue of North Texas Helping Irish Setters in North Texas find loving homes. Since its organization in April, 2001, IRISH SETTER RESCUE OF NORTH TEXAS, INC.
(20)

has engaged in the rescue of dogs of the Irish Setter breed who have been abandoned, abused, or whose owners have contacted the organization because they can no longer provide homes for their Irish Setter(s). Often, rescue involves taking dogs from city/community shelters. Upon taking possession of a dog, the organization takes the dog to a qualified veterinary clinic for a general examination. An

y identified health problems, such as ear infections, skin allergies, tumors, and other problems are diagnosed and treated. Additionally, unless we have verified that the following veterinary procedures are current, the vet administers: 1) required vaccinations; 2) Heartworm tests and if positive, Heartworm treatment; and 3) spay/neuter. The organization pays for all of this intake veterinary treatment. After the necessary veterinary examination/treatment, the dog is kept in a foster home provided by a volunteer until a suitable permanent home is arranged and/or until the dog recovers from any medical treatment. Generally, a dog is kept in a foster home for 4-16 weeks.

Update: Cricket will remain with his owner for now. Thank you all for your shares and suggestions.
This situation was a first for our rescue and appreciate all the great information.

We have an need to locate a lactating dam for an orphan puppy. Cricket lost his mother and all siblings at birth. He is 4 days old. Please PM with any information on a litter we can have him join to increase his chances of survival. He is currently in the DFW area.

It is hard to believe given their demeanor and great beauty, but there are Irish Setters that need special help from time to time. That is where Irish Setter Rescue of North Texas comes in. Irish Setter Rescue of North Texas is dedicated to helping Irish Setters in need.

Whimsy just can't seem to stay out of the spotlight! 💚

This past spring, she passed her AKC "Dogs in the Building" test. This allows Whimsy to now go to work with mom!

She had to show that she could be quiet and not bother mom while working, pass other dogs in hallway, not startle at unfamiliar noises/objects (ie. mail cart, electronic doors) and not vocalize while I'm away from my desk.

Good girl Whimsy! You are quite the ambassador for our breed 🐾

Our very own Whimsy was invited to represent her breed at Canines at the Capitol on March 30. AKC Government Relations department that specializes in legislation regarding dogs is hosting the event again after a 3 year hiatus due to COVID. They select dogs of various breeds owned by staff to spend the day outdoors near the legislative building in Raleigh. Legislative staff come out to visit the dogs during the day. It is a fun event for everyone.

We love to see our pups flourish in their new homes. Check out Whimsy, adopted last summer. She is pictured on the left the day after adoption and on the right this past February. That coat looks amazing!

Sharing this tribute of one of our recent losses. 💔

Maggie Mae has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We were blessed to have this beautiful girl in our lives for over seven years. She was 14 years and 7 months. She never gave up, a real fighter but the past few days were too much. She brought us so much joy and laughter. She also was a diva extraordinaire! She was my husband’s perfect office assistant and was always beside him when he was working. Though we still have three dogs, our home will be so empty without our princess. I chose this picture from the many I have her for one reason, this was the first picture I saw of her and fell in love with her instantly. A few of you will recognize this was at Glenna’s house when Mags was her foster. Maggie Mae, you were one of a kind, absolutely beautiful and you were so loved and you will be so missed!

We enjoyed our annual “Luck of the Irish” potluck dinner. Getting to watch a breed specific grooming demonstration was a highlight of the afternoon along with the traditional smoked ham. If you didn’t get to join us, we hope you can make it next year. ☘️
