A fisherman spotted her just east of the Faralon Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so badly off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her…. a very dangerous proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.
They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.
The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.
May you be so fortunate to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you.
And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude πŸ™

We apologize for our inactivity here lately. Our person who usually does all the social media stuff cannot access Facebook. With my work schedule and caring for the animals I haven't got alot of free time. Just wanted to let everyone know we are still here.
Have a wonderful day!

This is the routine morning and night for the feathered babes sanctioned to the sanctuary side of the rescue. We just paid $3000 to our vet and are already at $2000 again, because all the feathered babes needed to have their wellness exams done. We specialize in helping the medically challenged, aggressive, geriatric and end of life care. We do what we do because we believe every one of these babes deserves to live as healthy and fulfilling lives as we can help them live.

Thank you so much Christine Zbinden. Your kindness is very much appreciated!!!! ❀

Ok and the last update is LayLa going to her foster home this afternoon. She has been so sad without Amigo, that we felt it was important to get her to a small flock with experienced small bird folks to see if she will thrive better with other feathered friends. We are so excited for LayLa. πŸ₯°

Just a couple of updates.

Elbert left early this morning to journey to his new home. He offered his head to his momma so she could scratch his neck, and she did. She asked him to step up and he did, no issues at all. This from a bird that was "very mean". Elbert is home now and we are very happy for the both of them.

We truly can not take anymore companions in at this time, that's what we said, (financials are real tight). Until we received a call yesterday evening. An Amazon that has been bullied and teased by a teenager. Long story short Albert is not such a nice baby anymore. The boy who did this has since left the home, but the damage has already been done. Albert shows all the signs of being traumatized and is acting out with fear aggression.

We typically take in those babies who have a disability (medical and or physical). We also take in those who show aggression. Through the years we have learned to work with them and we give them time. Time to know they are safe, time to learn to trust...time to heal. Our rehabilitation rate is 90%. There are those that decide they simply are done with humans and we respect that. That is why companions sometimes are here for awhile. So we can show them not all humans are bad. Some have emotional wounds that go deep.

For those that do not know, parrots are very emotional beings. So sometimes it takes time for them to allow us to help them.

***We will be welcoming Albert into our rescue today.***

Story time...

The rabbit on the right is a wild rabbit that we lovingly call Cotton. She has been here on our property for about 10 years now. When our Roger was alive, she would wait outside by his outdoor habitat for us to bring Roger out for the day. Roger and Cotton would go nose to nose with a fenced in between them for at least a year.

One day Roger decided that he had had enough and began digging to get out to her. Cotton joined in and before you know it, there they were nose to nose on the outside of Rogers habitat. It became apparent to us that we realized we were not going to keep them apart.

Roger was a neutered boy, but he and Cotton became bonded and spent the next 7 years together. Where one was, you could always expect that the other was never far away.

Roger passed away almost 2 years ago and for a long time Cotton struggled being alone without him. She never left our property and began hanging around with the chickens and the ducks.

About 1 1/2 months ago, the rabbit on the left showed up on our property. You can tell by his/her coloring that this is a domesticated rabbit. Most likely someone released it by our area (we get a lot of that on our road). He/she then found their way to our place. We can not capture the rabbit, it is very scared of humans.

Yesterday while I was outside, these are the moments I captured with my camera. I guess we have another mouth to feed and another little soul to protect.

It warms our hearts to see Cotton now has a new friend. ❀🀩πŸ₯°
