Pyramid Veterinary Hospital was established by Dr. Douglas Nesler in 1982. Since that time, Pyramid Veterinary Hospital has grown to become a 9-doctor practice dedicated to providing compassionate, state of the art care, and outstanding client education. We sincerely appreciate all the trust our clients have placed in our doctors and staff over the past years to care for their beloved family pets.

Without the support and confidence of our clients, we could not have grown and continued to provide the superior care your family pet deserves. PVH is a full service animal hospital that schedules for appointments, surgical and dental procedures, and can handle day-time emergencies. Beyond first rate pet care, we make our clinic comfortable, kid-friendly, and strive for a calm environment so your pet can relax in the waiting room and look forward to meeting his or her own veterinarian.

It may seem counterintuitive, but teaching your dog to bark on command can actually help them learn to be quiet.

Speak up — Start by finding a trigger that makes your dog bark naturally. It could be a knock on the door, the doorbell ringing, or even someone saying “Speak.” When your dog barks, reward them with praise and a treat.

Quiet down — Once your dog understands the “Speak” command, introduce a cue for “Quiet,” such as “Enough” or a hand signal. Reward your dog with a treat when they stop barking after you give the cue.

Practice makes perfect — Practice the “Speak” and “Quiet” commands together until your dog can bark and then stop on command. This will help them understand when it’s appropriate to bark and when they should be quiet, giving you more control over their behavior.

Ticks are more resilient than we think, and they can emerge from hiding any time the temperature climbs above freezing—even in winter! Pets are at an ever-increasing risk for Lyme disease.

Because only a single tick bite can transmit Lyme disease, we recommend continuous parasite prevention for year-round protection and peace of mind. Learn how to protect your pet and yourself from this debilitating condition by contacting us at .

As a responsible pet owner, it's important to know the benefits of spaying your female pet.

Spaying eliminates the risk of ovarian or uterine cancer and uterine infections. In addition, it decreases the risk of mammary cancer, especially if done before their first heat cycle.

Currently, there is no approved treatment for heartworm disease in cats. Instead, management focuses on stabilizing the cat and closely monitoring their condition with frequent chest X-rays.

Steroids and antibiotics may be used to help address inflammation and the heartworm's Wolbachia infection. Unfortunately, the average survival time for heartworm-infected cats is only one and a half years.

Providing year-round heartworm prevention is an important part of your pet’s health care plan. If you would like to discuss the various preventives, contact our team by calling , so we can determine what protocol would best fit you and your pet’s lifestyle.

Your pet's health is of utmost importance, and regular veterinary exams play a crucial role. However, it's common for pets to feel anxious or nervous during these exams due to the unfamiliar "petting" techniques. To help ease their discomfort, practice examinations at home with plenty of treats and positive reinforcement. By doing so, your furry friend will learn to trust the process and feel more comfortable during future vet visits.

Spaying your female pet has more benefits than just preventing certain health issues. It also eliminates their heat cycle, which can cause excessive bleeding and urination.

Spaying also helps decrease their urge to roam, which reduces the risk of them getting lost or hurt.

Neutering your male pet is an important part of responsible pet ownership.

Neutered pets are typically less aggressive, less likely to urine-mark their territory, and less likely to exhibit mounting behavior.

Plus, neutering helps reduce the risk of certain health issues, and can prevent overpopulation.

Lyme disease can affect humans, horses, and dogs, and although it has never been confirmed in cats outside a laboratory setting, cats should still be considered at-risk as a preventive measure.

Ticks are mobile parasites and can hitch a ride on clothing, bags, or shoes, so all pets—including indoor-only cats—are considered at risk for Lyme disease and should receive year-round parasite prevention.
