Recent research highlights some health risks associated with spaying and neutering.

Removing s*x hormones can lead to serious health and behavior issues, such as increased risks of certain cancers, joint disorders, and behavioral problems. Alternatives like hormone-sparing sterilization (hysterectomy for females and vasectomy for males) can prevent these complications while still controlling the pet population.

To learn more about the impacts of spaying and neutering on pet health and explore hormone-sparing providers with our veterinarian directory, visit our website: https://www.parsemus.org/pethealth/how-spaying-and-neutering-affect-health/.

Many dog owners who have tried Cytopoint felt blindsided by the side effects they didn't expect. The official information from the pharmaceutical company differs greatly from the users' experiences, and it's reasonable to ask how is that possible?

Let’s talk about the heat. It’s terrible but what is worse are injuries or loss of a pet because of it. Here are 2 reasons that could happen. Hot pavement burns and while we’d all like to swim and cool off, there are issues with that too. Blue green algae is a fast but silent killer. You may not see it but your dog could be dead within minutes if it swims in it. It’s not worth the chance!

SHOULD YOU BUMP INTO ANYONE STILL SPOUTING DRIVEL ABOUT GRAIN-FREE PET FOOD AND DCM...

Someone tagged me in a post this morning about a vet group warning folk away from grain-free pet food as it causes DCM, to focus only on pet foods that adhere to WSAVA guidelines (which grain-free pet foods of course do...or else why did Mars spend so much on Champion Pet Foods, ie Orijen, lately). I tried to ignore it, a lot on today, but I fell for it and responded with this:

The irony here is that asides the fact grain-free pet foods DO adhere to AAFCO / WSAVA guidelines, those guidelines you are telling us to rely upon were invented in the 70's (by the NRC) to stop dogs and cats getting DCM from GRAIN-based dry foods when thousands of cats and dogs were dying of DCM from GRAIN-based dry foods as they essentially stopped putting meat (i.e. taurine) in there.

So now it is your position that of the millions of cases of DCM still occurring in dry-fed pets across the West are now NOTHING to do with their diets if they contain grain?!

OK, so what is it in grain specifically that protects pets from getting DCM?!

Because most on this side of the fence have it that it’s a lack of taurine is the problem, for the most part, or one of its building blocks, such as methionine, or too much plant fibre, which ties up the bile and means taurine can’t be absorbed.

In that way, both grain and grain-free pet foods are susceptible. In fact, if anything, so-called “BEG” diets (which include simply using real food) are known to use more actual meat which would suggest MORE taurine, not less.

Did you warn your listeners when Krogdhal examined puppy foods made by those brands you mentioned above and found every single one of them provided BELOW the minimum protein required by the pup to have normal growth over 6mths in a cage? Wouldn’t this lead to DCM in the poor pups trying to exist on these GRAIN-based products you recommend?
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022316623030183?via%3Dihub

Nor is it just protein we should be worried about in this regard. Sadly, we know that 2/3 of ALL "complete" kibbles (including prescription diets) fail to meet the AAFCO / WSAVA guidelines you are telling us to rely upon.
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/321440512_Mineral_analysis_of_complete_dog_and_cat_foods_in_the_UK_and_compliance_with_European_guidelines

The truth of the matter is even the FDA, who are thick in the middle of all this, today admit that there is NO SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE of any value suggesting grain-free is worse for DCM than grain-containing pet food.

They had to publicly state this because now they're in court for making spurious links (allegedly) between "BEG" diets and DCM in (alleged) collusion with vets such as Lisa Freeman from TUFTS UNIVERSITY (who dominate the links you provided for your "evidence"), a vet that is cash-sponsored by the brands you are telling us to trust above. As those claims were made publicly and repeatedly WITHOUT SCIENTIFIC FOUNDATION (and now today are found to be false) in an effort to (allegedly) stall the growth of grain-free pet food which now accounts for 50% of the US pet food market, both the FDA and those brands you love are on the hook for a $2.4bil dollar damages claim.

Let's hope your general ignorance of what's going on in nutrition outside of the candy-company bubble where you currently get your bad dietary info from doesn't land you in the same pot.

This is one very valid reason our kitty’s should not eat dry food. Cats on dry are chronically dehydrated. The younger they start eating raw, the better. My cat Gus is 18 and very active and healthy. He has been raw fed for over 10 years.

Convenient for you, but it can kill your pet within days. That's why I suggest you avoid it like the plague - especially this top one. It's far easier to prevent this pet-killing disease than you think. And you certainly don't want to regret it later.

The World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA has just announced their new spay & neuter guidelines. Due to growing evidence of adverse health effects of traditional gonadectomy (spay/neuter) and increases in cancers and joint disorders, WSAVA suggest the best practice for RESPONSIBLE pet parents is to leave dogs and cats unaltered (intact). Additionally noting, spaying or neutering a dog younger than 6 months of age is NOT recommended because of an increase of detrimental health risks. Acknowledging in some circumstances, such as rescues and shelters, where leaving an animal intact is not an option, they stress the importance of education and acceptance of newer, alternative sterilization techniques that have less long-term health concerns.
Let’s discuss responsible pet ownership. Fencing, knowing when a female is in heat and making adjustments in care, o***y sparing spay, vasectomy. The truth is society has become dependent on a medical torture, instead of education and responsibility. Shelters and rescues are NOT over run from lack of altering pets, they are over run from lack of common sense and responsibility. (Negative comments will be deleted and blocked. My page=my opinions)

Seems as though I’ve been seeing a lot of issues with ACL injuries and hip dysplasia lately. This podcast is AWESOME and extremely informative on why they happen and how they can HEAL without surgery. (Yes, I said HEAL!) IAS carries all the tools you need except the pt but we do have recommendations and can refer you to those facilities. Take a listen!!

Did you know that most Hip Dysplasia and Cruciate Tears can be treated and healed without surgery? What? Dr. Judy and Dr. Steve Marsden chat about the importance of circulation and blood flow, a whole, fresh food diet, microbiome balance and certain herbs when treating even chronic cases. ...
