Staffed by volunteers so there is not always someone present. Beginning in 1992 as a non-profit animal rescue group, A.S./A.P. (Associated Society/Animal Protection) evolved into a no-kill, limited capacity cat shelter by 2001. Since it's inception, the independent organization has functioned solely on private donations, fundraisers, and volunteers. There is no financial support from the county, s

tate, or any other group. Our mission is to take in stray cats and kittens as space allows and find permanent, loving homes for them after they're examined by a veterinarian, FIV/Leuk tested, wormed, vaccinated, flea-treated, spayed/neutered plus treated for whatever medical conditions they arrive with-anything from respiratory infections to broken bones and gunshots wounds. We have an outreach program where we can offer some help to people with their own cats (or cats they find) depending upon our available resources. The cats housed at A.S./A.P. get a clean, warm environment with nutritious food, lots of compassionate care, and plenty of time to run, frolic, and interact with other cats and people. There is a wide variety of personalities and surely one that is just right for you. Potential adopters complete an application and are screened for the ability to provide permanent, quality care for a cat. Our staff try to match the adopter with the appropriate cat for their home, and follow-up support is available after the adoption.

Another amazing transformation: Munch was a feisty cat at the shelter, swatting and hissing at others. She was adopted, adjusted nicely, then, shortly after, a kitten, Journey, was added to the household. After letting the kitten know that she was the boss, Munch took her under her wing and became a great "big sister!!" They romp and play together and Munch protects Journey from the dogs. A win-win for all! We love these kinds of stories!

Little Hunter 2's owner was no longer able to care for him and he was returned on Wednesday. What a lucky guy, he was adopted already on Saturday! We barely had a chance to welcome him back! But he adjusted rapidly, is happy in his new home and his lady is thrilled with him! 🥰

Jimmy (sparky) and Stephen (streak) have officially made me a crazy cat lady!! They were so fantastic that I recently adopted two kittens. Stephen was a little skeptical at first where is Jimmy instantly took a brotherly role ❤️❤️❤️❤️

It seems that whenever we post a cat or dog missing on our page we get bombarded with a bunch of comments directing people to a website stating they can help find the animal. Please DO NOT click on these links. Those links will install malware on to your phones/computers. I try my best to block them and delete them but can’t always get them all. Please beware of these posts.

This week we remember our friend, Jane Schaitel. We do so every year on her birthday week. Jane was a long time supporter of the shelter and fostered many kittens for us. We like to honor her for all she did. This week, 12 Aug through 18 Aug, all adoptions are reduced by half and will be $50. You can see our available cats on our website at asapcatshelter.com
Our population of cats is a bit low right now due to our construction project but we still have a lot of nice kitties to choose from!

From Basil’s adopter-
Here with another update on Basil (fka Brie). Overall he’s still doing very well! He remains an active older gentleman with lots of love to give. Everyone comments that his muscle tone and his coat have just gotten better and better.
I’m so grateful for this little guy.

Missing cat. Jansing Ave in Leon, near the campgrounds. Last seen 1 week ago. Is an outdoor cat (fixed and ear tipped). Very friendly. Possible a camper took her in or she may be trapped inside a shed or other building.

Former ASAP kitty, Wizzy, (she is my baby) was attempting to swim I think! She made a big ol mess! She is a crazy girl most days!

Jubal loves tossing his catnip banana up in the air! He is a sweet kitten, about seven months old, and would make a great family kitty. He’s very playful and loves other cats. He should have at least one feline buddy in a home. Just a sweetheart 😻

Kitten Jubal(black) and Patch❤️. Jubal is drawn to the adult cats, even though he is almost as big as them at six months old, and seeks comfort and attention from them. Think he still misses his mama. He is a sweet kitty and the last of his litter to be adopted. He would do best in a home with at least one other cat. He’d make a great family kitty😻. Patch is one of our FIV+ cats and is one of the sweetest guys you will ever meet and would make just the best companion for someone 😻. And that is Prew at the end if the clip!

So this happened today! Prew(calico) and kitten Jubal were interacting in the cutest way. Prew doesn’t like most of the other cats but she seems to enjoy the kittens, so it was so sweet watching them. Jubal was following her around walking right next to her really close. Thinking he may miss his mama, who was adopted about a week and a half ago. He is the last of his litter waiting for a forever home. He does still have another kitten as his cage mate, so he’s not alone😊. He’s a sweet guy and would make a great addition to any family. Prew would love to be your one and only but she’d do ok having another feline around as long as it wouldn’t pay her too much attention. She loves her rubs and is a talker. 😻

The kitties were enjoying the warm weather out on the catio this morning. Some were bird watching and others just relaxing and snoozing. They all love it out there. Happy cats😻

Bud was playing with the writing on the litter bag. He is such a character! We love our Bud, he’s just the best😻

The kitties were thoroughly enjoying the sunshine on the catio. It gets like a mini sauna out there and they get all dopey and relaxed. Happy kitties😻

Bud is still looking for his forever home! He is such a great cat. He needs a home without dogs or small children and with possibly one other feline friend, though he’d love to be your one and only!He’d make a great companion cat😻

Tiggs was having a good roll on the concrete. Must’ve felt good, he was thoroughly enjoying himself 😺. Tiggs is a great kitty, he loves attention and is just a sweetie. He is hoping to find his own family, he has lots of love to give😻

This fun guy is Connor! He is such a sweetheart. He was in pretty rough condition when he came to us but is putting on weight nicely and his personality is shining through. He loves people and lots of attention. He loves to play, as you can see! He gets along pretty well with the other cats, his best buddy is Polar Bear, they like to wrestle. Connor would make a great family cat or a companion for someone😻. He’s just the best!
