Welcome to the Hawk's Nest Rescue! We are an avian rescue. From budgies to parrots we absolutely adore all those with the gift of flight.
We provide them with a healthy and loving environment.
I have 4 kittens found in an empty house and 4 puppies that need to be spray/neutered. Anybody know of any low cost groups that can assist? Can't get in touch with Animal Allies. They will go to loving homes, but would prefer to see them fixed.
For now we have decided to close Hawk's Nest Rescue. However, if you need a point of reference or advice on your parrot, we will continue to support!
A RESCUED PARROT POEM
Will you take me home with you?
I can't promise I'll be good.
No one taught me how to act,
Or behave as a parrot "should".
My first owner didn't treat me right
He said I was "bad".
He never forgave me for that first bite
After that, he was always mad.
He shoved me back into my cage,
And I started to scream.
Then he hit me in rage
And my life became a bad dream.
So, now I scream and yes, I bite.
I'm angry and misunderstood.
But, please take me home with you,
Love me and I'll be good.
Please let me come home with you
And spend some time with me.
I can be sweet again, I know.
Take me home, and you'll see.
My next owner swore at me,
I learned to say things back.
So now my words are crude and rude,
Please cut me some slack.
If you let me come home with you
I'll learn some nicer speech.
If you are kind and give me the time
I'll change my vulgar screech.
I'm really just a baby,
And so misunderstood.
Please let me come home with you,
I can learn to be good.
My next owner just HAD to have me.
She thought I was "way too cool".
But now she doesn't have the time for me.
She's busy with boys in school.
That's why I began to pluck,
I'm not pretty any more.
I won't be much of an ornament,
If that's what you're looking for.
I may never grow new feathers,
My chest may always be bare.
But my soul, I know, could heal itself
If I only had someone who cares.
My last owner died and left me,
She said she made plans.
But she never followed through on them,
And I've fallen into bad hands.
Please take me home and treat me right.
And let our friendship grow.

This time it will work, I know.
Please overlook my failings,
Please end this pain and strife.

Meet Honey! Honey is our latest rescue. Her owner has passed, but he loved her and kept her for aprox 5 yrs. We estimate she is 6 or 7 yrs old. Honey is special needs as her legs are splayed, but she has learned to overcome her disability in many ways. She can maneuver around and uses her tail, winds and beak to aid her and get where she wants to go! It's amazing! She loves her daily flying exercises. Yes I said flying! We hold her securely in hand and glide her around so she can feel the wind in her feathers as she flaps her wings and flies! She is amazing friendly and sweet as Honey!
Went to visit a Pet Store today! Always like to find new little places to pick up supplies. We Met Reggie & Angela at Pets with Attitude in Lexington. They were very nice and welcoming and there were lots of birds, and toys to see. Many owners with their own birds on display like these beautiful Golden Conures. They were so sweet!

Pidgey has a new boy! Cooper and Pidgey have bonded over the past few visits and Pidgey is ready for his new forever home!
Cuddles has also found a new friend to share his hugs with! Heather and Cuddles are doing great!

Such a goofball! I love my Caruso!
Rescued this beautiful Barred Owl on Friday. Poor thing had some head trauma, possibly hit a car. He was in a heap at the bottom of a tree. He looked much better after getting some fluids. He has been transferred to PAWs for Rehabilitation and is doing great. Thanks to John Sargent at Two Hearts! Such a gorgeous fella!
Our latest rescue...Meet Caruso a 17yr old male Calico Macaw. Caruso needs some TLC. He has an issue with his beak, but he's feeling better after a warm shower and some snuggles. He's settling in to a freshly clean cage with new toys this evening. Goodnight sweet boy!
George and I are headed to GA this morning for a recheck with Dr. Jacobson! Hopefully we'll get good news!

Riding home with our precious George! Long day and our baby is tired.
***Update***
😪😪Unfortunately, we didn't get the news we hoped for today. George is completely blind in his left eye. His right eye is also deteriorating and is currently inflamed. The vet has given us two daily treatments to administer over the next 3 weeks. After that George will be seen again and his eye will be rechecked to see if we can get the inflammation under control. They want to do a regime of further costly testing to try and determine the cause. If we are not successful, then George will lose the sight in that eye as well. 😪😪😪

We're on our way to the University of Georgia with George this morning to see if they are able to help with his cataracts. Prayers for a great vet visit! I do so hope they will tell us they can help him! 🙏❤
Another Happy Adoption!!! Our Cockatiel Tom has been adopted by the wonderful White family! Mr and Mrs White's son has a new best friend to love and care for. Tom's new name is "Lemon"! We wish them the best of times with their new family addition!
***Update*** George is going to the University of Georgia on 7/26 for his Health exam and Optomology consultation!!! I'm so nervous and excited for him! I pray they can do the cataracts surgery and improve his quality of life going forward. Keep is in your prayers!
Welcome Petey! Petey is a sweet girl! She is a Senegal Parrot and is approximately 12yrs old. Petey is a recent intake and has had 2 previous owners. Petey can talk some. She says her name, says things like what ya doin', and come here. Petey does pluck some, but it's not a severe case. She keeps a lot of soft down feathers on her chest and nape. She is free flight and loves to fly. Petey is available for adoption to a loving home. She will probably do best with a female companion. If interested please PM us for an adoption application!
We have a bunny open for adoption! Sailor is a female with big eyes and ears! She is so cuddly and so very sweet! She's approximately 5 mths old and needs a loving home! She'll come with her large cage. PM if interested!
